Default 944+uhaul trailer?

Has anyone ever tried pulling a uhaul trailer with a 944? I am planning a cross-country move here in a couple weeks and am finding a way to only bring one car. It seems that all the 944 hitches have a gross trailer weight of 1000lbs, yet the uhaul trailer weighs 850lbs on it's own. Even just adding my 350lb bike to the trailer puts it waay overweight. Anyone pulled anything heavy before?

I wouldn't risk it.

I think pulling a jet ski (or a track trailer with your tool box and tires) is about all it'll do.

If anything, you're better off towing the 944 ON a trailer - or having it shipped. Or roadtripping with a friend who you can buy a plane ticket for him/her to fly back.

Yeah...the plan right now is that the rest of my furniture will be coming up early this summer, right now I just need a little more room than what my car can hold (and maybe my bike). I think right now we are debating on finding a small open trailer to use, or maybe looking into a soft luggage carrier, or one of the trailer hitch platforms...

All I have seen towed with a 944 is a tire trailer for race track events...not sure I'd want to put more than the rated weight on the rear sheet metal.

How about renting a pickup and a dolly?

Why not a U haul truck pulling the 944 on a trailer behind?

Even if it would be safe to do i have a doubt that uhaul would allow you to hook up with the 944. you'd probably have to use another vehicle to pick up the trailer.

Braked trailer weight is about 2500 pounds. MoCo suggests trailer brakes on anything over 1000 pounds. Porsche factory hitch tongue weight is 90 pounds.

I used Uhauls trailer to tow my 944 but it was a dual axle flat bed trailer.

He's pulling things WITH his 944...not pulling his 944.

Well, I spent a couple hours today packing things into my car attempting to see what I can fit...it was like tetris. It seems that I only need a little more room... So I think I'm going to get a smaller soft luggage carrier and attach it to the hatch. I don't have a lot of weight to put in there, but getting a few light things out of the car should give me enough room...I just have to mail my clothes. Next May I will be moving up the rest of my stuff along with my bike in a uhaul truck when I will be moving into a bigger place. Thanks for all the advice though.
