honestly i dont remember my HIGH fan ever going on before.. maybe.. but today after driving around in 90 degree weather with the AC on.. when i got home.. and turned off the car, instead of the low fan running for a few minutes and shutting off the high fan ran for a long time.. 5-10 minutes.. it wouldnt shut off so i unplugged th battery (long ago my low fan ran all night and killed my battery and my thermoswitch in the radiator was broken).
hooked up the battery after an hour, fan wasnt running. cool. so was it that hot that the fan wanted to run for so long? hope this isnt going to happen again...

My fans often run for 10 minutes or so when I've ran hard, but then again it's always hot in Texas. I just figured it was normal.

My HIGH fan will run when the engine's off ONLY if I have the key turned to ON. The main fan will still run regardless of key position until the engine cools. I think this is situation normal.

Mine started doing this two weeks ago. It has been hot, but it turns out only one fan was working, hence why the other stayed on forever. If they both work, then maybe you have a short like last time. Good luck

There is a thermal fan switch that screws in the back of the radiator on the drivers side. It runs the fan for a while after shut down if the coolant is hot enough. Sometimes they need to be replaced.

Check your fuses. If its like my 87 944S, you'll have 2 fuses, one for each fan. If either of those fuses is bad or not making a connection, your fan will run on high with the key off! I know, my fan thermo switch failed recently (I use a battery switch to turn off all power every time I park it, until I get it fixed). I pulled (I think its fuse # 15 and # 25) each of the two fuses to see what would happen. With either one pulled, the one working fan would go to high.
