what exact steps did you take to remove the anodized paint? was it a PIA?

I think it was a scotchbrite (scouring) pad, which gives it the brushed look. But that's just my guess.

Bumping to try and find out which sand paper grit was used... just got a pair and am trying to replicate this. I've been using 500 but it's more mirror-finish than brushed.

220 then lightly knock down the roughness with 400 all in the same direction of course.
