Ah how I would love to go to a rear coilover. Alas, the ITS rules seem to say... "NO SOUP FOR YOU!"

Please correct me if my interpretation is wrong. It does say coilovers are allowed but also specifies that springs are of the "same number and type as originally fitted". This would seem to preclude rear coilovers even when run with a torsion bar still in place.

10% off is a great deal though... perfect for any new Cup car builds.

IMHO, the rear shocks are only worthwhile if the bushings are converted over to spherical ball joints... (which Bilstein can do)

Every driver I know running ITS has read the rules on coilovers for 944's in the rear the same as you. However, PCA has basically the same rule but has allowed rear coilovers based on the factory offering rear coilover helper springs as part of a tow package. Dont know if anyone has pursued this interpretation with SCCA or what documentation is available from Porsche on the tow package..

Having said all that, and for what's its worth, the National Champ in 944 Cup and second place were using torsion bars with no rear coil springs.

You can run them without the springs...

Although shown in the picture of the kit, rear shocks can be used with torsion bars in place and not rear coilovers.

And you may be correct, as I have never driven a 944 with the torsion bars out and only rear coil overs. However we have a couple of drivers in the Cup series remove the TBs and use rear coilovers without going to metal bushings and reported the car suffer no adverse handing qualities or failures.

But if u want to run rear coilovers and not pay for the metal bushings, some drivers just mill the torsion bars down to a near zero effective spring rate and then add the rear coilovers. BTW, if you are racing, those solid bushings are money damn well spent with or without deleting the TBs. Think Lindsey carries those too and can likely get the discount applies to those too.

The Escorts are listed as having the choice of different front strut valving options including (380/150 (street/track). You can chose a spring rate more suitable for the street and come closer to matching your torsion bars, not so stiff it'll will shake your fillings out.

Of course, being as how these are Bilsteins, they can readily be revalved by Bilstein Motorsport for I think the current going rate is around $60 each.

I've been running Bilsteins (custom-valved) on my racecar for I guess 7 years now, they're awesome shocks; excellent performance and durability, very inexpensive. I do also have them on my street Turbo, excellent there too (though they get less of a workout!)
