Actually, for the snow, you're better off over-inflating the tires a bit - that opens up the treadblock a little...

I wouldnt worry about chains on the 944, i have heard that they were engineered to allow for the use of snow chains

I get off work late tomorrow and I'll probably have to sit at a bus stop for an hour or more for a bus so i'm trying to figure a way to be able to drive.

thing is the main streets are probably cleaned up a bit by now so I won't have trouble driving on the main roads. problem is getting out of my driveway and through the snow packed residential roads and onto the main road.

right now I backed up a bit and got stuck and findally got it back on my drivway.

lol this morning some guy I think blew up the motor in his mercedes when he was just sitting there spinning his tires for an hour. His car broke down after all the reving and tire spinning and he only got the car to move like one feet from his driveway.

It's getting to the main roads that's the problem. Seattle has been overwhelmed and even though we're only five blocks from a major artery we haven't seen a sanding truck or a plough.

Hmm. I think it may help to be lower pressure as more of your outside tread will contact the pavement, and the tire will flex more as it touches the road and leaves it, flexing the tread more and probably cleaning the tread a bit more. Just from a conceptual guess though.. plus more surface contact on ice will give you more grip. In a way snow is pretty similar to sand driving, and you want to lower your pressures in sand.

FWIW, my tires are at 20psi all around right now for the snow, and it seems to be working.

Don't put frickin chains on the car. It ain't no truck. Go with narrow winter snow tires on all four corners. You will be fine.

in this case i think its better to lower, because ur not getting any grip at all,so what would u be opening the tread block for? snow? i seen people get stuck and lower the psi and get out, also if u get stuck ,rocking the car back forth can get you out...i never drove my 944 in snow tho i dont know how it is..

i would't change the tires if i had the money..i would just go for it..maybe getting something to throw under the tires if u get stuck would help some?..just some of my ideas..plus maybe cleaning your driveway lol..good luck

I've got snows on my car, and it's doing great! We've had storm after storm, and it works okay on most of the snow. I haven't gone out when the snow is still packed up, but on three inches of snow, or lots of ice, I get plenty of traction.

Call in sick. You don't make money, but you don't spend it wastefully either.

my driveway is clean but the residential roads leading to the main road is packed with deep snow, so as soon as I back out of my driveway my rear wheels get stuck and just spin

I think theres about 20 cm of snow and this wednesday suppose to snow another 10-15 then this weekend it's suppose to get warm and rain so that's good news.

You don't want to widen your track in snow / mud / etc. Widen the track, and the tire will have greater difficulty 'digging' through the snow. Underinflating will essentially widen the track.

lol. well they'll know i'm lying. I work at crappy tire in automotive parts so it's not like I have an important job to get to (i'm a full time student).

but still I don't like lying to my work. I'm working at the police station in January as a part of my school and they phoned my current work and talked to my managers about me so I don't want to look bad by lying to them.

anyways looks like I'm the only person working tomorrow until closing and it'll take me forever to bus home in teh snow at night.

anyways this much snow here in the vanouver area is rare. last year I drove in teh snow without problem but that was only like 5 cm not 20 cm.

There are actually OEM snow chains for 944's I believe. Check PET.

Dont buy tire spray. That sounds about as useful as a chocolate teapot.

If a spray worked, then people would just buy summer tires and spray them in the winter. Id hate to be one of the suckers that bought winter tires when there is a spray available.

I agree with Van. Youre better off parking it and taking some other form of transportation. Even if youre a perfect driver, that doesnt mean that everyone else is.
