Only a year or so later do I take things apart and do some testing. Few wraps of electrical tape on the cancel tab (which didn't look worn), and bam! Left turns now cancel the turn signal.

The cancel switch lever is worn down. It is a white plastic piece that sticks out to make contact with the side of the steering wheel hub tab. By wrapping electric tape around the S/W tab is building up the tab to make contact with the worn switch lever. I fixed my son's by using a jewelers file to cut a tiny V to use as a grip point, and used a little bit of JB Weld that covered the V to build up the switch lever. I did this about 2 months ago and it still works fine.

I know, it's YEARS later, but my 1987 Porsche 944 did the same thing after working on the ignition switch. The turn switch and wiper, etc. assembly was pushed in too far. I pulled it out while rotating it and it now works perfectly.
