Turn Signal does not cancel on left turns?

Default Turn Signal does not cancel on left turns?

So, in the S2 the previous owner was nice enough to install a 968CS wheel. It's a fantastic wheel. However, if you use the left turn signal the signal does not cancel. It's weird, it does "click" like it wants to but can't go far enough to trigger the cancel. I had everything apart Tuesday and everything seems OK. Is there some sort of spring connected to the white switch the tab on the wheel triggers?

Wonder if I can borrow a known working one...

when i put a different steering wheel on mine,the signals wont turn off eather,i thought it is because it is a bit smaller then stock...but it rarely turns off by it self,hard corners i think only..

Odd part is that it DOES cancel when making a right turn. So I don't think it's the wheel itself.

It wants to keep turning left. You better slap the NASCAR outta that car, and quick!

I've never opened up the turn signal unit on the late interior cars. Maybe it just gets stuck and some light grease might help? Just a shot in the dark.

Check Tom Pultz's wonderful site www.944s2.com first, but I think this is not related to the steering wheel but rather the switch itself. There's a return spring and tab for each stalk position. The left return gets worn quicker because it's used more often. Turning the wheel right just helps it snap back more easily.

Unfortunately, on airbag equipped cars the turn signal/washer/cruise are all in the same switch, so if one thing fails you either need to repair the switch or replace the whole unit.

I've seen people on here repair them with some success, but you definitely need to know a thing or two about switch mechanicals before trying it. I bought a really nice used unit with cruise on eBay a few years ago and it's been working fine in my S2. Good luck with it and report back.

I concur with Luis, this is the switch. Had the same issue with mine on both my 944 NA and 951. I tried to repair them and had very little success. Ended up buying a new one from Paragon. It is about a 30 to 45 minute job to change the entire unit.

RED944, your problem may not be the switch, but that the adapter for the different steering wheel is not touching the tab for the cancelling function. If you pull the wheel, you should be able to visually tell if the adapter had a tab to trigger the cancelling function.

What ends up happening is the cancel tab gets worn, can be fixed by replacing the switch assembly. if it is working one way but not the other it is worn cancel tab, not the steering wheel (as the tab is in the same location but the function of the tab is reversed for the other direction). 30 to 45 minutes is including two smoke brakes and a beer, mine took me 10 minutes and that included a walk back to the shed to get my 10mm wrench.

I got mine to work by building up the size of the cancel tab with some electrical tape. The cancel tab is a piece of black plastic on the back of the steering wheel, that nudges the switch back off when you turn.

Tab looks fine. This isn't a stock wheel but the 968CS wheel that the PO installed only a year or two ago.

Was not trying to make this a contest - only providing a frame of reference for someone who may not have every done it before... For that matter, never having done it before and wanting to make sure that nothing got broken in the process (as dash trim tends to be brittle), I always go slow and try understand what it is that I am doing.

I did this on mine as well a couple of years ago and surprisingly the "hack" fix is still working ok.

On a non airbag car, perhaps. The later cars are much more involved to get the turn signal/washer/cruise switch assembly off.

I have the race car one darren, only thing i need to do is rewire the wipers to a toggle switch.

Though that car was an 87, it was built late 86 and did not have airbags, so.... don't know if the switch is fundamentally different or not.
