Which would you choose (Wheel / Tire Choice)
Well the 965 in the family has new wheels arriving today, and that leaves a set of factory C2 Turbo Wheels with nothing to mount them on.
I have a couple options at this point and time and i'm just trying to figure out what would be the best choice.
1) Get spacers for the C2 Turbo wheels, use them as track wheels because they are light (235 up front, 255 out back on 7s and 9's respectively) Then Keep the Repliacs for the street.
2) Use the 9's from both sets as my track / street wheels and run 255's all around (keep in mind I have a daily driver).
3) Sell both sets and try to get something light wieght and strong in the sizes that I want. 17x9.5 and 17x10.5

What tires do you want to run on the track? If its some super sticky non-road tire, the two sets makes the most sense. But if you're only on the track for fun and not worried about running the best tires, go for option 3. It'll make you the happiest because you get the exact wheels you want and you won't have to mess with the extra set of wheels at the track.

Ken,
I was going to run some DOT R tires at the track or at least that is the plan. Either yoko A032R's:

The Michelin Pilot Sport Cups

or the Pirelli Corsa

Well, if you want to run the R compounds then two sets of wheels is probably you're best best.(unless you start trailering to car to events )
The next question is are the C2Turbo wheels the best option to run on the track with? I'm not entirely qualified to answer, but in my opinion they're not. So perhaps the answer is keep the replicas for the street, sell the C2Turbos and purchase whatever you consider the ideal track wheel. That involves more money because you are only selling one set, but it seems to be the best option. So how's that sound?

Use some cheap phone dials for the street.
With the new DOT R tires, the selection is much better in 18" sizes. FYI, the widest 17" Pirelli PZERO Corsa is 255/40YR17 while the widest 18" is 315/30YR18. Similarily, the widest 17" Michelin Pilot Sport Cup is a 255/40YR17 while the widest 18" is a 345/30YR18 . The availability of true racing slicks seems to be rather low in 17" sizes as well, especially if you are looking for used slicks.
As for the factory warning, just pay attention.

Steve,
but 18's are so expensive, I mean I have 2 sets of 17's sitting around and although it would cost me about 800 to shod them in some nice R compounds (I get wholesale) I think 235 up front and 255 rear should be enough for track days, its all for fun at this point and time.
We have to keep in mind i'm working with a budget. And going to 16's for the daily drive (when i do it) won't work because of the future installment of big reds.
Ken,
the C2 turbo rims are not ideal, but they do tips the scales much less than the replicas. And i'm a bit warry to sell them in case I want to return the C2 turbo back to stock at some point.

Very good point Ian. Though massive meat can be fun, going to half the track days because of the rubber budget would be less fun.
heh heh... Beavis... he said massive meat... heh heh... and rubber... heh heh heh

I can say that the kit is very well put together, but i'm working out one or two final tings with the car, new fuel filter and FPR and then I'm going to dial it in at low hp (15 psi) where i'll run it on the street.
I can say that I have been very please with everything having to do with the kit, and as soon as it is tuned and ready to go I'll have a full detailed write up....
