Post Went down to the local CAP auto parts and bought a starter

I threw it in last night and the dam thing just spins. The old one gave up on saturday. i took it to a local rebuild shop and he said it would be cheaper to go buy a reman'd one. I need the car for next Monday to for a two hour one way drive. What should I do? This one was $175 with the core. I am bringing it back. I don't want to get another one here. Its not a bosh rebuilt. Should io just try to get a bosch rebuilt from somewhere like paragon or just try another starter from CAP?

I would want to put in a Bosch unit so take it back. I had mine rebuilt for $65 about 3 years ago and it is still going strong.

Did your rebuild shop say how much it would cost? How many miles do you have on the starter? What was the shop going to do for the rebuild?

I'd try another shop and see what they say. But you are running out of time if you need the car working next Monday.

He couldn't do it for less than the $175. There were only 50K on the starter. its original. Rebuild was all new brush package because it was all worn. the sloenoid was shot which alone would be $80.

just called vertex. Rebuilt bosch $149 plus $100 for the core charge which i will get back when i send back the old one. just have to add $45 to get it tomorrow.

You are getting ripped on parts prices, probably labor, too. I sell that solenoid including the UPS shipping charges for $30 to Rennlisters. And I am making some money for my trouble. Go to a different shop and get another quote. You want to keep that starter as you know its life story, 50k miles is really low mileage for a Bosch starter.

If you go vertex with next day shipping you are back up to $200. Oh, and Vertex is fine on new parts but people have complained long and hard about bad luck with rebuilt parts. I think vertex goes to the low cost bidder on rebuilding and the quality suffers.
