Post sunroof adjustment question...

Looking for advice on adjusting a sunroof on a 90 944S2 coupe. BTW, I have shop manuals, have been to the 944 Garage and others' websites, and am familiar with the general location of the system components, but remain a little confused.

The sunroof has progressively reduced in the amount it will open, to the point where now it will only open about a half inch. It will close OK; however, it cannot be removed manually because the lift arms will not retract. Sounds like it "thinks" it is partially or fully open when it is really not. Which microswitch(s)/adjustments am I looking at working with? TIA DV

For the opening of the roof itself - the third microswitch needs to be adjusted. This is the switch on the bottom of the motor, on the back (you have to remove the two screws that hold the motor to the bracket to get at it). It needs to be pushed away from the white plastic gear or the lil' rollers the gear hit have to be moved out more. These adjustments will cause the gear to hit the switch later, making the roof open more.

As for the arms not retracting, that's either the top microswitch on the front/top of the motor, or the microswitch inbetween the sunvisors. My guess is that the top microswitch has moved to far out and the gear isn't hitting it. This switch must be made in order for the roof to know to move the retracting arms the opposite direction.

The roof will still be able to open and close because the bottom microswitch on the front of the motor dictates the stoppage of the roof in the closed position. The combination of this switch and the top switch being hit at basically the same time gives the roof the option to either raise up or retract the arms, depending on what position the key is at.
