URGENT computer help please
Hello friends...
My mother has been working on a slide show for the past 2 weeks using Powerpoint.
She is making a tribute for my grandparents 60th anniversy party on saturday, which is a suprise.
The problem is, the file is OVER 500 MB's and growing. She just now realized that she can't email something that HUGE and she doesn't know what to do.
Well, I was thinking that maybe the file could be split into like 6 pieces then put on 100 MB zip files then we can put it on my computer and put it together and I can burn it onto a CD.
Will that work and how do I do it?
Any better ideas????
Thank you!

WinRAR would be your best bet. It can reduce files sizes by unbeleivable amounts and you can split files into several RAR files. You can get it at www.winrar.com Good luck with the presentation.

winzip, and probably winrar and other compression utilities will split the compressed file over several disks as they fill up. just choose that option when making the compressed file.

Sorry I didn't read your first post through enough, you have the burner...
How far away is mom? Can you pull her HD and slave it into your PC then burn the CD?
WXYZ? BFD? PCMCIA? BPOE?

Okay you need to befriend a geek... If I lived near you I would do it.
Hit the local bars, find a guy in a white shirt with a tie and a pocket protector drinking lite beer, offer him a bag of Dorritos...

Do you have Tux in your avatar, because you think he's cute, or because you're one of the faithful? If you are, you have a few options...
If you have a portable machine and the NICs, network the two boxes.
If that's not an option, set up openssh on your box and get the putty sftp client on hers. Then just transfer it over.
If you're both running windoze, you can probably find an openssh compatible daemon for windows out there somewhere. The nice thing about using openssh is no ISP blocks port 22.
