Default some interesting technical discussion over on the 997 board...

https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ferrerid=45397

I'll preface this by saying that I for one would be lying if I said that I wouldn't take a 997 over the 944 any day (UNLESS it doesn't have a clutch...i'd have to be a PDK turbo or something for me to give up a clutch).

But that thread....that is just embarrassing. I think the fact that the guy used some primo microfiber towels really tops it off. You know how I transport coffee in my Porsche? I hold it for my girlfriend while she gets into the car, and then I walk over to the nearest trash receptacle and toss it.

Pre-america-fied no-cupholders-for-a-reason german car FTW.

Good line right there. I'm in full agreement: I hate cupholders. People should not have drinks in their cars - for safety reasons, health reasons (promotes frequent purchase of drinks and thus weight gain), and messing up your carpet reasons. The American fixation over coffee disgusts me in particular. But the whole image of cupholders... no. But alas they paid for their cars and they can do what they want and be happy. I'm happy none of my cars have them and I'm happy someone invented bottles.

I guess it doesn't really bother me because this is exactly how I see the average 997 driver, lol.

Also no I haven't, but I think in the thread he mentioned it did well.

lol kind of agree with you there

no food/drink in my 944 either, unless it's plain water

while its not as fast as any other Porsche, we too, can stop for coffee/food at OTHER people's leisure

I call BS.

I am a coffee addict....if I am in the 944 in the morning , there's a cuppa joe with me.

It's not like I take coffee on the race track...but I DO pick up a large DD on the way to a pocono DE at 5:30AM....WTF..why wouldn't I?

I'm not a coffee drinker but the lack of cupholders is a pain when I head to a fast food restaurant drive thru and end up holding the drink between my legs. Gets a bit cold down there...

only bottles in my car, except for my FWB- she alone gets the privilege of carrying like a cup of frappucino or whatever because she more than makes up for the time id spend cleaning in the event it did spill.

I haven't read the post, but I have built some bad *** 997's, and I would take one over the 951 in a heartbeart if money wasn't a factor I do enjoy passing them on the track, but it is still one of my favorite porsches (with some modifications of course ).

x2. I'm not ***** to the walls on *every* trip in the Porsche.

I like to eat on the way back from the track as well. That 4 hour drive back from VIR? I love me some nice beef jerky.

Forgiven because of penguins.

Listen, I love 997s. I actually don't like coffee but I do love red bull. But some things should not be mixed. I just ask that you take the time to stop and enjoy your coffee more so you can likewise enjoy your driving more.

What I don't like about eating in the car is that it gets grease all over EVERYTHING in the car. The buttons on the radio and HVAC, the wheel, ugh. I have to wash my hands after eating before I get back in my car.

I guess maybe in 20 years when stuff is falling off 997s left and right, they'll have more "HALP MY CAR JUST BLEW THE HEADGASKET AND TIMING BELT EXPLODED WILL SEAFOAM FIX IT?" threads, and the 1004 (I mean they're gonna run out of designators in a couple of years here...what comes after the 999?) board will be about not spilling your coffe.
