What kills tranny's?

just some new idea's that someone suggested.
Wheelhop? does wheelhop kill tranny's?
ohh and before the type of gearing I was thinking of is Helical gearing... thats what the 944 is and thats why you blow the bearing between 1st and 2nd when you abuse the tranny.

I thought "piston slap" refered to excessive clearance between the cylinder bore and the piston skirt when the engine is cold. The "slap" is the piston skirt wobbling in the bore until the engine warms up. We used to see it mostly in performance engines that were "loose" with cast pistons. It is also found in old, worn engines since the cylinder walls don't wear evenly on the length of the bore, nor do they wear in a "round" pattern. The thermal expansion rates took care of the clearance as the engine reached operating temperature. Might be wrong though.

Spur gears are usually used for reverse and are cut parallel. As for killing the transmissions, I do not know what you could be doing wrong.

Edited In regards to engine damage, as stated above it is often referred to as lugging the engine and it puts too much strain on the crank and big ends of the connecting rods (weakest links).
Here is another bicycle example, think of starting from a stop on a multi-speed bicycle with it in too high a gear. While you can actually get it going it usually puts a lot of strain on the weakest point, your knees, which may start to ache from the effort. If you do this too often, or push to high a gear a lot, you will eventually blow out your knees (like I have in the past).

Near as I can tell I broke my pinion on a spirited shift to second. Bad shift and knew it immediately. car squatted a weird way to the drivers side and a few miles later I had broken teeth. I remember how funny it felt at that time.. Maybe case flinched a bit? don't know. Had no problems since replacing the Ring and pinion. Unless you replace the pinion bearings and races I was under the impression that the tools were not needed according to the manuals? I maybe wrong but that was what I read.
