I have had this same problem on customers cars. IT is one of the relays for the ingition. IT is either the relay X or the other one. It can not be the dme relay. IF it was the dme relay, car would not run. Does your sunroof work??? It is powered by the same relay to the sunroof relay that powers up the guage pod.

If the guages don't work it's the "X" relays, I think there's (2) of them. You can use VW relays. I'll have to look up the number for the VW part.

Ok I am not sure what the X relay is. I will double check the sunroof. but that thing never works. I replaced the gears inside. The motor turns is working I hear it but nothing is happening. I will see if the motor is still turning but if what you guys are saying is true then wouldn't that mean that when my gauges dont work the sunroof doesn't work.

The gauges work right now! From what I have noticed they dont work when I drive for a while then stop somewhere turn off the car, come back and turn it back on and nothing happens. I have safety inspection need to get this done. Besides the fact that I like to be able to tell how fast I am going. Its going to be real funny if I get pulled over and the officer asks me, do you know how fast you were going?

I have a 85/2 944. Maybe your relays location will be the same. In your fuse box, location "G-2" & "G-13" uses WV part # 141951253B relays. The price per relay is about $6.00 each. My guages went and I replaced both relays and all the guages work fine now. I hope this helps.
