Post Malfunctioning Hood Latch

Hey there,
The hood latch on my 86 951 is not working correctly. There is no tension in the interior level. I can hear a clicking at the front of the hood, so I think the failure is at the latch point itself. My question is this: Is there any way to get the hood open w/o the level? I'm thinking that the only way is from the underside of the car, but I really don't have the proper tools to do this. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Tom

Try this thread out, I think it covers the subject.
