Default Noises Etc

Hey all, I've got a list of issues, but one major one came up today.

'84 944.

Today I got a tack tack tack noise coming from the clutch when engaged and accelerating or decelerating. No noise while at constant speed. I am unsure of whether the rubber center was replaced or not, so I will be checking with the PO, but I think that may be it.

I also have an idle hunt issue, where sometimes it'll search for idle, and I think it may be the basic things, vacuum lines and the idle regulator.

I've also been getting clunky shifts, but that may be a user error :/ I haven't been driving manual all that long, though it doesn't seem like it's my fault.

Ideas?

With an '84, I think you clunky shifts are probably that the rubber-centered clutch is on its way out.

Idle hunt is likely vacuum, like you said. There's not really an idle adjustment you can make (that I remember, at least) on an early.

theres a screw on the throttle body that you can turn to raise or lower the idle. iirc you turn it left to raise the idle but i could be mistaken

Pop just drove the car for about a half a minute, and says he thinks it could be a CV joint, and after reading up on them, I think that could be it too, and since it does it when taking throttle off, it might be severe. Any expert opinions?

What your describing, especially with the noise coming at throttle off, sounds like what happened with my clutch. I never have had a CV joint problem, though, so don't know what that might sound like.

Update!

The mechanic, Jessie (He owns a '71 911 Targa that got absolutely wrecked in the floods in Eastern Iowa this past summer, and a new '83 944 for his toy for now) tells me that after taking apart the axle, he found both inner CV joints were wrecked, and the outers could be repaired, so he has ordered the parts, including new boots, and will have it for me tomorrow afternoon!
