Post trans fluid check/fill?

How do I check the trans fluid in an 944na 1986 manual.

I took the plugs out of the trans where the Hanes book said to but it seems like there is something metal right up against the whole from inside preventing any fluid from going in or from sticking a finger in to check the level as it says to do in the Hanes manual.

Am I looking in the right place fill/check my manual trans fluid?

Well, I just checked mine today on my 84na manual. I don't think you can miss it. You just crawl under the rear of the car and it's right there on the side of the transmission case. The fill plug takes a 17mm allen socket/wrench and is threaded from beginning to end. The drain plug is located directly below it. I took the plug off and stuck my finger inside and it was full so I closed it back up.

I took both off and there is something right there inside the hole preventing me from sticking my finger in or allen wrench in.

I bet my trans is screwed big time.

I dont have the haynes so dont know what is in there.
You might want to have a look here:

What you feel inthere could be the the ring gear of the diff.
A screw driver (or streched finger) will touch this.

Also, sometimes worth it to pick up replacement drain/fill plugs from Porsche (they're really cheap) as these are invariably rounded a bit. If yours are deformed in any way, replace them.

Always remove the top one first. If you remove the bottom one and can't get the top one out, there is no way to refill the trans (without inverting the car - not recommended).

Keep the shiny side up,

I found it. I had done this once on my Dad's car but for some reason couldn't find the fill/check and drain plugs.

My trans. is full, but I still have a grinding noise when I coast in 2nd gear. Any ideas?

How much for a used 951S trans with limited slip? or for just a 86' 944 trans?
