One of they places quoting a paint job for my car says that my car was meant to have a one step paint job. He says the 2 step ie with clearcoat wouldnt fade as quickly but would look different and be noticeable in the door jambs and inside the gas cap area. What do you guys think?
Thanks,
Mark

I repainted the nose, spoiler, and rocker panels (stone chips) on my Alpine White '86 944 last year using the 2 step base coat/clear coat paint. It was a near perfect match.
It may differ by base color though and a body shop could tell you that. I found the 2 step very easy to use, but more expensive.
Soon I'll be finding out how the left front fender looks clear coat, thanks to my 16 year old.

I did mine in Spies Hecker 1 step and am more than pleased with the results. Either way will be just as good. Prep work is the key.
Oh, and do the door jambs and the gas cap. It is not that hard to tape it off.

I'm having my hood, header, and headlight covers done right now. They body shop came highly recommended. He wouldn't do the 1-step when I asked, only the 2-step. He was kind enought to do 1 headlight cover first to see how the match was. It was almost perfect to my eye.
