Jip thats perfectly normal, it can even go up to the third white line but not above it.

ok i checked the radiator hoses and the top one was warm/ hot and the bottom one was cool could that be the thermostat?

Honestly I had the same problem on my 83'. It ended up that the fans where not coming on properly. My mechanic just hard wired the fan and it was on all the time and it went away.

It could be many things but, i'd check to make sure your fans are turning on properly.

i have the fans wired up directly so they are on all the time.

That certainly point toward the thermostat, might be a blocked radiator too. I would start with a system flash. It could be the pump and the seal behind the thermostat is also a likely cause. Lots of people replace the thermostat but leave that seal in place and then it came back and bite them later.

ok the water pump is new im guessing the thermostat so ill start with that and a flush.
