Default RRRRrrr....tie rod help please.

Ok doods...here's the deal. I am removing all of the suspension components and rebuilding it all. The passenger front is completely off without a hitch. Meanwhile, the driver's front is another story. The nut on the tie rod end is binding a bit and the ball joint spins freely when turning the nut. There appears to be no way to stop the shaft. Please correct me if I am wrong.

put a jack under the tie rod that will put pressure on the joint and stop it from spinning.

Good suggestion. But, the entire assemble has been taken apart. The only bolt remaining in place in the tie rod.

If you can get it into a big vice, crush the tie rod end until it stops spinning.... MUAHAHAAHAAAA....

MIne spun as well. Just whacking the tie rod end upwards with a hammer usually stops it from spinning.

If that doesnt work, rent a tie rod separater from your local autoparts store.

Are you replacing the tie rod ends?

Is the tie rod end bolt that goes through the spindle spinning, or is the entire tie rod spinning off the ball joint where it attaches to the rack? If it's the 1st one then the bolt should have a place for an allen wrench (at the top), which would stop it from spinning. If it's the second one, the inner tie rod has flat spots that you could put a wrench on to stop it from moving as you take off the outer tie rod end nut. Have you tried hitting the nut with a hammer or using an impact wrench (if it's the 1st one)?

Impact will make quick work of it. Tighten it, then spin it off.

take a pair of channel locks and grip the tie rod. then use appropriate wrench to undo the nut. i think it's like a 19 or something?
