SH_T !! All that work and I still have a sizable leak. I guess it is the rear main seal after all. It is frustrating that you can't get a direct look at the aft end of the pan gasket to see that it is properly seated in the groove.. I did the wire test and it certainly seemed to confirm the gasket was in place... Arrgggg. The old pan gasket had really taken a permanent set back there so I thought it was the culprit. If I wanted oil leaks like this I would have kept my old British sports car (MG)...

I spent a lot of time thinking about what to do regarding the oil pick up tube. On one hand, I considered having some of the seams welded, and a support bracket put on. On the other hand, I thought about just replacing it. Mind you, the pickup tube looked fine, I just didn't want to take any chances. Well I got a quote from Sunset of $50 for the tube so I'm just going to buy a new one and never think about it again.

I would have preferred a chain but I couldn't find mine. Next time I'll just go buy a new one, but the rope is holding fine this time.

ahhaa looking at the url, it's not even on the site anymore. this is off of the web archive. i think i'll save it and keep it.
Agh, you're right, the article isn't on the sight anymore, and I'm about to replace the rod bearings myself. Does anyone have an updated link or an alternative tutorial? Something preferably for a novice who's going to do the job himself come hell or high water?

I'm mostly done with the project, wrapping up tomorrow morning. Looks like the #2 bearing has spun, the rod bearing itself was off and hanging lose in the cylinder. Amazingly, everything seems okay, the rod itself is bent slightly, but not anything too significant. Good thing I got this replaced. Kudos to Travis at Rennbay.
