Tazz.. you have power seats right? If so, they sent you the wrong extinguisher. Compare your pic and mine, where the bracket mounts, and the orientation of the extinguisher.

I just sent Stable Energies an email but I don't think I will like their response. I was looking around their site and on the page with the extinguishers they show the bracket with the extinguisher facing the other direction.

This would put the handle in the way for the passenger. I went out to the car and just strapped it in like that and it would definitely be in the way. If that is their fix I think I will just spread the prongs on the bracket so I can face it in any direction. When I had it strapped in I could not turn it so I don't think it would be a problem.

Tazman,

Do you really think the FE is going to be that much of an obstacle to a passenger? If it is, then leave the FE at home when you have a passenger.

Mark, that would negate having it....

Taz... you could spread the fingers, and perhaps add a little rubber moulding to the edges if it is slightly loose. I could have sworn they have 2 different brackets AND 2 different extinguishers.

To all who are concerned about passengers:

Don't worry: the FE won't be in the way no matter whether it is facing out or it, pointing up or down.

Trust me: many people get in my car and don't even realize there's a FE underneath their legs!

Of course, YMMV,

Perry,

Why would that negate having it? I guess it depends on how often you drive with a passenger. 90% of my driving is done without someone in the passenger seat.

Perhaps Tazman drives with a passenger more frequently?

It would be an issue during a track event where an instructor was present. However, I'm sure that an instructor would not mind the presence of the fire extinguisher.

Anyway, I assume the primary reason some of us have FE's is for use on the track.

My primary reason of the FE is to prevent my car from burning to the ground again! It would suck if you happened to have a passenger in the car, left the FE at home, and you ended up watching your car burn. The only way to minimize the damage is to always have it in there.

Perry,

I agree. That's why I have decided to leave my FE in the car all the time. My advice to Tazman is just to balance the level of inconvenience of having the FE in the car against the possible safety benefit. If, like me, he doesn't have anyone riding shotgun very often, then the inconvenience factor is very small. As Z-man stated, even though the FE looks like it is a big obstacle, it really isn't. My wife (who is about 5'6") sits in the passenger seat with absolutely no interference. Perhaps if she were wearing a fancy dress, then I might leave the FE at home.

If I were in Tazman's position I would try it out for a while before altering the bracket. On the other hand, altering the bracket probably won't cause any problems either.

Taz, did you have a chanced to call Stable Energies to see if they do have 2 different extinguishers? I can see how having the handle up in the air could snag a leg or someones clothes. That is why I think they offer 2 of them.

Laurette from Stable Energies sent me a reply saying they have a flat bracket for the 928 that would work. So I replied to make sure it will fit with power seats (which I did specify in the email I sent them)I will let everybody know how things turn out.

I missed that this went to page 3 when I made my earlier post. The only thing mentioned about different extinguishers were a shorter nozzle on the Haltron compared to my Halon.

With my luck I would never have an extinguisher and purposely leave it at home.

I actually rarely have a passenger in my front seat, my sons are to young to ride up front with the air bag. It is just plain and simple I want things a certain way when I do them if I think that is how it should be. Why should I have to compromise when these things can be worked out with no compromise involved?? If they do have the straight bracket for the power seat and it works well I will suggest to them that they discontinue the other bracket or find different extinguishers that can be mounted properly. So far Laurette has showed the willingness to make things right and if I can help them work out a solution to help others out I am willing to do so.

Ok here is my update. Laurette from Stable Energies sent me the new flat bracket that she said they use for the 928's with power seats. It fit perfectly every thing is to my satisfaction now. I would like to thank everybody for their input.
