Riff,

I don't think I can get a decent picture of how it mounts (at least not without taking the seat out again!). I'll try to explain: The seat mounts to a pair (l and r) of rails; the rails mount to the floor. I believe the Brey-Krause unit mounts between the rails and the floor. Thus, the B-K unit is fixed in place. The Stable Energies unit mounts between the seat and the rails. Thus, the SE unit moves with the seat. This is very nice in a car that is a daily driver. Also, I often haul my kid around in the back seat, so the ability to move the passenger seat is important. Installation was very simple. I never realized it was so easy to remove a seat.

Scott,

I'm not sure who actually makes the mount. It looks like it may be under the name "Camber Truss", and my best guess is that it is an in-house operation of Stable Energies. The only identification on the mount itself is a sticker with "Stable Energies" on it. The shipping weight of the mount and FE was 8 lbs. Most of that was the FE. As mentioned previously, the cost of shipping was inconsequential compared to the cost of the mount and FE.

Cheers,

Mark

Why you want an extinguisher....

Mark-

That is exactly how the BK unit is mounted, trapped between the lower seat rail and the floor. Still confused about how the Stable Energies unit mounts. Is it trapped between the upper upper seat rail and the seat itself??

Thanks,

The Brey-Krause unit is nice and sturdy and looks great finished in brushed stainless. Seat movement fore and aft is pretty limited though. As was said before it bolts in between the seat rails and floor.

That's why it can move with the seat. (There are some screwholes underneath the chair just infront of the electric motors on power-seat equipped cars)

2)I know that behind the drivers seat is not the optimal location, but it seems quite reasonable. I for one can reach around my seat while still buckled up and if the latch is properly designed then I can release it with one hand. This location will also put it out of my way, keeping me from getting annoyed at the extinguisher and being tempted to take it out of the car.

Let me know what you think.

I'll be home in 1 hour and snap the pics of the mount itself.

If I were to put it anywhere behind me, it would be securly strapped to the middle of the rear seat back. Someone did this... Thad? It was slick, and was my 1st choice, but thought the front mount would give a little better, and quicker access.

Riff,

Yes, the mount is inserted between the seat and the rails.

Brief mounting instructions:
1. Remove seat (with rails) from the floor; take seat out of car.
2. Loosen bolts that secure the rails to the rear of the seat.
3. Remove bolts that secure the rails to the front of the seat.
4. Insert FE mount between front of rails and front of seat.
5. Replace bolts that secure the rails to the front of the seat.
6. Replace seat in car.

I'm not sure what variety of FE's will attach to the Stable Energies mount. The mount has about 10 or 12 holes that allow different FE brackets to attach. I'm sure the folks at SE could assist.

One note about Mark's procedures: the seat does not have to come out, but it will take roughly 4 hours longer to do the process without removing the seat!

-Z-man, who took roughly 4 hours longer to install his FE mount!

1 hour at work turns into 6 hours in the garage.

Here's the pics I promised. Oh, and take the seat out. Also, there are 2 different models, one for power seats, and one for non power seats. Make sure you order the right one!

And some of the "other" progress.

Enjoy!!

Will the Stable Energies mount fit BEHIND the seat? It must be due to the way I sit or something, but getting something from behind the passenger seat is really quick and easy for me.
