With the shortage of LSD units, I was wondering if anyone even gave this a thought.

I could have sworn that i read somewhere that some people are using them with their LSx swaps, but don't take my word for it

i imagine you could do it but it would be difficult. the corvette doesnt use a true transaxle; the differential and transmission have their own separate cases and both happen to be mounted at the back of the car.

lsx swaps can use a corvette clutch/bellhousing but not the transaxle. I think one or two people have done that but it requires major modifications (to the body of the 944 to fit).

The only time I personally have ever seen it was when they adapted the entire rear suspension into a 944. MAJOR fabrication.

If the LSD unit is what you're after, where does the Chevy transaxle come into the picture? Why don't you change your differential to a Quaife unit? You'll get a TorSen LSD right away.

Steven Rea had transplanted an entire corvette drivetrain including the vette torque tube into a 944. He said it would have cost him less if he had a new chassis made (tube car) instead of using the 944 chassis so that would give you an idea how much work it took. Jim Pierce (forgot the name of his shop but he is literally next door to Callas Rennsport) in Torrance did the work for him and he has done a few former 944 spec cages (they mostly are in cup now) so if you really need the info and how much it costs, call him. I am sure he can do the work. I am sure there was a reason why they opted not to use the 944 torque tube and adapt it to the vette transaxle.

Sure, that make way more economic sense than taking your 944 trans, buying a quaiffe or some other aftermarket LSD, then paying a shop to install the LSD and rebuild the trans.

Interesting. I know that the standard procedure for engine swaps involves fitting the 951 transaxle if it's not a 951 already.

Are there other options for toughening up the trans to deal with more power?

drop the corvette drivetrain into a corvette. less stuff needs to be fabricated.

search R&P here. plenty of stories about the rear achillies heel of 944s blowing up.

Allot of people have talked about using the z06 trans, it would be a crap load of fab, but if you are up to the task then i say go for it.
