The gold car was a 924 Carrera GT set-up for rally by either the factory or with factory blessing for professional rally racing. This was back in late 70's and was only done on the 924 platform never to my knowledge to a 944 in a professional effort.

i had forgotten it and i now humbly apologize for my sad-face comment.

in fact...your car and the others you shared have now inspired further lust

how big a tire do you think could fit on a 944 without cutting fenders?
215/75/15 with enough lift? maybe some more offset to tuck it inside the well?

You might be able to fit a tire that big. But I think you would need to raise the car a bit and there is probably a high likelihood you would have interference before reaching steering lock. I will be looking into this at some point for sure. Most likely I will start with something along the lines of 205/65R15 or 215/65 or 205/70. I would not mess with offset. Keep that as specified for the car.

Michelin rally tires. I do not remember the size off the top of my head. It's not the same format we are used to. It's some silly Frenchified metric system. I think they work out to be something like 205/65R15. I'll try to take a look and get back. I still have a few sets laying around...

I checked them last night. 17/65-15

one thing, depending how much the car is raised if using strut spacers/longer struts is that the wheels will move out/increased track every slightly since the struts are at an angle.

more than a little bit of course would require new inner pivot point for the A-arms to compensate the lateral movement of the wheel.

I don't think so. Assuming the length of the lower control arm does not change, the wheel hub is going to remain fairly close to its intended design location. Should you wish to mess with arm length and pivot points - then yes, you may want to change offset.
