Maybe it's just my area, but fewer and fewer of any Porsche owners wave back to me. Even when I'm driving mystepmom's Carrera! But then, DC drivers tend to be the biggest ***** anyway, which also has something to do with it.

Generally speaking, most of the wave-backs I do get are from people with older, meticulously maintainted Porsches. I guess they tend to be the greater enthusiests...

I never meant that all Boxster owners were posers. I do think that many are, though. The ones that are here on Rennlist are here because they want to know more about their car, Porsches in general, and share experiences with other Porsche owners.
I really think the low cost leases that Porsche offered on Boxsters opened the door to a lot of people looking for a status symbol. I remember radio commercials that said "Lease a new Porsche Boxster for $399 a month". Who wouldn't want a Porsche over, say, a Nissan if you had $400 a month to spend (and don't need a back seat).
It's hard for a real enthusiast to spend $40K to $50K for a car and then modify it and track it. When there are more Boxsters hitting the used market at $20K and below they will undoubtedly find their way into the hands of real Porsche enthusiasts.

Hey - do you know what I consider the #1 sign that someone is a non-enthusiast (either BMW or Porsche driver)?

If you see alot of brake dust on the front wheels - like months worth. Its not a fool-proof method, but I figure that if someone does not have the time to keep their car looking good, they must not be too enthusiastic about it...

LOL, there is love for the boxster just not for a majority of the drivers. I will say I have meet a few guys that are complete enthusiest. Like this guy in town that had a red 944S and now he owns a nice Red boxster. I am going to guess whoever owns that is an enthusiest and would more then likely wave back. Its just the non-waveing ****** that pissme off.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I like the Boxster. I admit I haven't driven one yet.

I wave at them, they usually don't wave back. No, they never wave back. No matter. I have found boxster drivers that are entusiasts. I'm sure they wave, we just haven't passed each other on the street. It's no big deal.

I believe corvette owners are pretty friendly towards each other. I don't know if they wave or whatever. I see packs of them, so I know they drive together. Since the Harley has replaced the corvette as the new mid-life crisis bellwether, perhaps they are for real sports car enthusiasts again. A recent article on Harleys in AARP magazine (my father-in-law had it) solidifies Harleys as THE thing to have these days. For the mature adult, of course.

I got a wave from a Boxster guy once. But i was in my Ferrari.
Mostly only the water 4's wave at me in the 968. Occasionally 911's(almost always pre 993).

As far as other marque's yes lots:
Corvettes wave (and have many of the same issues (C5's not waving to C4's...)
Italian exotics wave
NSX's, S2000's wave
I always see motorcyclists wave at each other. (almost religiously in fact)

Heck I even got a wave from a fellow Durrango driver once.

I believe there is a lot of comeradery amongst various flavor cars adn their owners who are into them. There will always be the status Ho's who mess up the works, but just drive on and be happy.

Now, a fool-proof method that somebody IS an enthusiast is seeing a "rennlist" decal.

Yeah I'd love to clean my wheels, but they are so pitted it would take forever and I have other things to do to the car + work and the like. Cleaning brake dust off my front wheels is far down the totem pole of priorities.

Hey, let anyone buy/drive Boxters, 911's, or any other Porsche. They are caring for and taking the depreciation hit on my future cars.

Most 944 original owners probably wouldn't have recognized every other Porsche on the road either.

I love 'em all! Spend those bucks, put lots of 'em on the road, and keep them nice and shiny for me. A few years from now, I will be flogging that garage queen mercilessly around my favorite race tracks with a big smile.
