Default I was offered to trade my wheels for 15" Phone Dials

as per Autocross thread, my 16" wheels have big tires, with big spacers (not early car offset I assume)

but now, I was offered to trade my wheels for 15" Phone Dials that have correct offset for early cars, seems like the wheels have good rubber; rubber on mine is pretty much brand new

should I or not? if I do then for spring I will just get a sweet set of summer tires on PD's and take the car to the A-X

Those are 968 wheels (if they are 7 and 8") or 964 wheels (if 6 and 8"). They are all late offset and 16". Definitely worth more than 15" phonies but if you need some properly fitting wheels maybe you can trade + cash.

ok

what stamping do I look for on the back of these?

I'll take them off this weekend and take a peek back there; no one can ever tell me what they are, just that they are "Cup wheels" or something like t hat

God damn, I can't find a good pic!

I'll upload another one once I find it, I know there is a nice pic of the side of my car somewhere ...

I wouldn't trade them straight up if I were you
Unless you want to trade them to me for my cookie cutters so I can have a full set of 16x8s

hm I am still checking stampings on them

reason I was offered a trade is because someone here has a parts car for sale with wrecked front, so I asked how much and was given a cheap price, so I said all I really need is wheels - and don't really need the rest of the car

a few days later got a reply of possible trade for whatever I have for the 15" Phone Dials with early offset

so here I am thinking about this

I really wish P/O gave me more info about this car

ugly picture, don't say nothin'

and they look dirty in this pic, that's all, there is nothing wrong with them

Those wheels you have are awesome. I would just put some smaller profile tires on them, and if you can, try to get some really great performance tires, instead of the economy "all-season" tires that appear to be on there.

Also, any chance you could measure the thickness of the spacers and the length of your studs? I'm looking into buying a set but not sure what exactly i'll need.

all I can tell you is that people seem to be more impressed by the size of the spacer then the rest of the car

if I get to it this weekend, I'll try and measure them

still, what stampings am I looking for ?

whether trade or not, I still want the wheels done in black with a red lip

^ I agree. But having that offset is kind of rough, even with the spacers he is running they still dont fill up the wheel well like they should.

as far as stampings go, look for something like:

16x7J or 16x8J ...the 7J or 8J will tell you how wide the wheel is.

The offset will probably be stamped either in mm or as ET.

also look for the Porsche/Audi/VW logos to see if the wheel is real or a replica.

Why are you looking for stampings? I told you what wheels they are. There is no doubt. The rears are 8" wide and were offered on late 964 and all 968 as standard. The fronts were 6" wide on the 964 and 7" wide on the 968. They are all 16" diameter and they're always worth more than 15" phone dials.

To determine the widths, look for a number right next to the air nipple on each wheel. It will tell you the width (6, 7 or 8) to the left of the nipple, and the offset (48, 52, 55, etc, in millimeters) on the right.

BTW they look really good! Especially on your Guards red car. It looks to me like you have the front on the rear, and the rear on the front. That's why it's not filling the rear fender properly.

Just an FYI I had 4" spacers on m 83' 944 before my wheels met up with the edge of the wheel wells. Don't trade off those nice wheels!! Most people (myself included) tend to want to get away from the phone dials as they are so dated looking. I'm sure they'd be okay for autocrossing as a second set of wheels but not for all around use.

Btw, those tires are HUGE, okay not huge, but they're pretty big considering..
