Where can you get that center console trim for gauges? I'd like to get good engine oil and water temp gauges.
The thing is, I don't think the dealer is going to be able to reset it for you if you have the Momo wheel in there. The system is very particular and it's going to expect to see an airbag, if it doesn't it trips the light. There are procedures on Rennlist for clipping a wire or two to disable the airbag warning, just have to search. I'm not much help there as I kept the airbag operative on the 996 wheel.

The gauges on the center console are just Autometer Sport Comps, the bezels are standard on the gauges. I bought them from Egauges.com...looks like they have some sexy new Sport Comp II's with LED lighting.

Now, quit messing around and show us pictures!

ok, a few gratuitous shots

Now, where am I looking for wiring in and out of the orange control box for the airbags? Anyone have a good photo of the actual group of wires you have to cut?

Looks good, well done!

I started to marvel at the sight of a working dash clock...and then realized it doesn't agree with the 968 clock in the console, LOL

Any before shots of the dash so we can better appreciate your hard work?

thanks for the kudos. it was an enjoyable project. I don't know what to do with my 2 clocks! The analog one isn't even connected right now. I was hoping to use two cubbies in the console, instead of a radio (no need for a radio), but the cubby doesn't fit well in the upper slot.

the old dash was badly cracked and starting to warp. this pic gives some idea

Are working clocks really that rare?

Seriously though, does anyone know where the connectors coming out of that orange airbag brain box are? I felt around with my hands and didn't feel any connections, and i couldn't see any either.

The wire bundle come out of the back of the orange airbag controller. Those wires go to a round rubber connector. If you unplug the module, the car won't start until you jumper two pins - I don't recall off the top of my head which ones. Are you keeping the passenger side airbag or disabling the whole shebang?

disabling it, so from what I gather I only need to cut the correct wires and then plug the connector back in. why do these things always have to be in the spot you can't see? thanks for the tip CurtP

Get a cubby from another car, one thats meant to go in the radio space. I know VW has a nice cubby.

Easiest way, IMO, is to remove the orange controller and either use a short jumper wire between the terminals in the plug or cut the connector off the orange controller, short the two connectors and plug it back in. You can remove those PITA security nuts with a pair of Vice Grips. It helps to remove the glovebox door and glovebox insert to gain access to it.

I have my original harness out of my car. I'll look tonight to see if I still have the jumper wire stuck in the plug. I'll take a picture of it if I do. There is nothing left of my airbag system. New dash is a non-airbag version and I've removed the two sensors too. The airbag dash is HEAVY (with the passenger side airbag in place).
