In addition to keeping track of your screws (always a good idea, lol), my biggest recommendation is to set aside plenty of time so that you don't have to hurry. Put yourself in a zen-like state, take your time, don't force anything and you'll be fine.

Bob of 928leathershop (on the net) trimmed up a carpet set for me. Interior was perfect fit. Done in german velour (more expensive than domestice pile/silverknit) Trunk was a little bit off but will work. Interior should be same as newer 944

VERY PLEASED with look and feel. front footwell padding installed on carpet bottom, and very nice wear protectors.

ALSO: bob does Excellent leatherwork and if your dash is out, might consider covering it with leather. He does exchanges so you are not without dash long.

thanks guys. I'm 1/2 way there.

a few discoveries along the way. some previous owner has obviously been through much of this before. about 1/4 of the screws were missing....

So, there were a few broken tabs for the connectors on the back of the gauges. the connectors seemed on fairly tight. my previous gauges worked, although I sometimes had to tap the engine temp and the fuel gauge never read higher than 3/4 full. Should I be bothered by those tabs/clips?

Also discovered this, under the battery -

any suggestions for what do about it?

Also, I get a slight whistle around the windscreen at speed (I replaced the windscreen after buying the car). Would it be a good idea to put some kind of silicon/caulking around the edges to help it?

lastly, I've got to figure out what to do with the digital clock. The replacement dash and console are from a 968 and have an analog clock, so I don't need it. Any suggestions?

TIA,
Alex

Ask for them to delete the clock openings.

Carpet looks nice, but I'd like to see more pictures of the true fit and finish of the product. More pictures of the dash and interior when finished!

The kit look and feel fantastic BUT do not hold your breath while waiting for it!
It is worth the frustration though.

Rusting battery trays are rather common. Most just have it patched. Make sure to remove all the rusted metal or you could risk it coming back tho (it's like cancer). If there were still a 944 at my junkyard I'd be able to cut it out for you, but it was crushed a little while ago.

OK, a follow up to this.

Replacement dash is in. Fitment is pretty good - some bigger gaps around the side vents than i would like, but not too bad.
Questions relating to the new gauges: the "!" light is on, the airbag light is on, and the seatbelt light is on. I didn't think I would see the airbag light because they were both disconnected with the previous dash. Did the ecu somehow reset? If so, I need a dealer to turn it off, right? Is the "!" light on because of the airbag? And how do I turn the seatbelt light off? Otherwise, everything seems to be working fine.

Thanks for the help.

The "!" light and the seatbelt light all come on when the airbag light is on. Don't know how those were defeated, my first guess was just that you tripped it pulling the steering wheel off. Did you use the same orange air bag module as before?

Hopefully others here will chime in on how the air bag work around might have gotten hosed up.

PO put in Momo wheel, so that airbag was disconnected. And when I pulled off the dash, the passenger side had already been disconnected too. Oh well, I guess I'll just get a dealer or repair place to reset it. I have to say, the interior looks nowhere near as nice as your car Greg, but oh so much better than when I bought it.

Where can you get that center console trim for gauges? I'd like to get good engine oil and water temp gauges.

Up next for me is finishing the carpet, putting in a new headliner, and then KW v3 coilovers. So many things to do!

Do the reset procedure outlined on Clark's Garage. Or you could do like I did - rip it all out! I even replaced the dash with a non-airbag model.

Why delete the clock openings? I still have mine and it works just fine, I kinda like it in fact, plus how many in dash clocks have built in manual lap timers??

I guess delete it if your clock isn't working, but why not just change it out to a wide band O2 sensor readout, or an outside air temp gauge.. I like both o thos mods much more than deleting the in dash clock all together...
