30 minutes of ownership....
....and we have a start/no start issue.
I'll try to make this short.
A friend finally purchased the '86 944 (mabey you remember from another thread?).
From the PO's house to his (15-20 min.) it started and ran fine, then from his house to a 2nd location (15 min.) it took a tad longer to start, but it cranked and ran fine. then while trying to leave 2nd location it would try to crank, but would not fire.
We tried to trouble shoot, and thought no spark? I pulled 1st plug... didnt see any spark (though i didnt know what i was doing) Then i pulled plug #2, turned key and it fired right up!! and no i also didnt see any spark.
It ran fine back to his house, but again, will not start. tried the plugs again, but nothing. Guessing the first time was just a coincidence?
What would cause this?
Its kinda funny, but you cant help feeling sorry for the guy. He hasn't even been able to drive it (he doesn't know stick).
Any help would be appreciated. TIA

... no, but we had no time/tools before he had to go to work, and the weathers kinda nasty.
Is it common for the starter to not work, then work again, and so forth??
when mine failed, it failed, no questions asked.

if it's the starter easiest way to tell, give it a bump start. if it's the wires/plugs then it still won't want to start. hope for plugs or wires as they are cheaper. either way, yea i kinda feel bad for him, and if it's his first 944 he's probably saying already he'll never buy another

It is his first, and he loves it, though hes kinda pissed right now. I tried to make it sound like a horrible idea (must not be possible) by telling him all the horror stories, and what would NEED replacing. the PO is saying he'll help as much as posssible..... we shall see.

Bump start = push start.
OT: This weekend, just for fun, I had my 10 year old son push me in the 944 out of the garage (slightly downhill) to the driveway which is steeply downhill, and push/bump/roll starter the car. He got a kick out of saying he was able to push start it by himself!

Also wiggle the reference sensor wires.. Look at the tach and see if it bounces while trying to start it, if not, first replace the DME relay (When my DME relay went bad the tach didn't bounce) And then go about checking the speed/ reference sensors and wires

99% sure it is the sensor wires....that is exactly how they act. Where is the car now? I will be on that side tomorrow (follow up after my spinal surgery) and I would be more than happy to take a look.
