If your car only has 80,000kms on it (50k miles) then I wouldn't replace the tensioner. Replace the top and bottom pads, and make sure the J-Tube to the tensioner is in good condition, if you're not sure about it replace it. I got my tube from paragon products for $116. I'm sure your tensioner is fine.

WOW....the next thing you'll hear is the valves being bent if the chain skips or jams on a broken cam tooth.

You is lucky my boy!

80,000 kms...the tensioner is likely ok...the bottom pad will be the culprit - is my guess that a piece may have come off and stuck between the chain and a cam tooth and presto!

Check the oil feed tube, and how the tensioner works when you have it out too.

Now this winter I'll be checking mine again too.
