Post Upgrading

This is what I'm planning on doing, tell me what you all think. I want to replace my headlights with <a href="http://www.smartcart.com/Paragon/cgi/display.cgi?item_num=70477" target="_blank">these</a> headlights, but I'm not sure if these are the nice bright blue ones or are they just better stock ones? And if I get these will they tell me how to focus them?

Next I want to replace my motor mounts, they are the originals right now, very rough when idling (just can't stand it any more, plus porshe was gonna charge me 600 to get that done while I had my clutch and a few other things replaced for 2700. Plus I'm only a junior in highschool and on a limited budget). But I don't have a garage to do this in so I'll probably wait to do this when I goto my friends house in Williamsburg. But theres one problem, what do I use to hold the engine up? just a couple of jackstands with blocks of wood? Should I get the ?<a href="http://www.smartcart.com/Paragon/cgi/display.cgi?item_num=PP951.375.042.04" target="_blank">aftermarket mounts or the OEM mounts?</a> The aftermarket ones are a hell of a lot cheaper, but does that mean they will wear quicker?

Next I want to buy new calipers, rotors, pads, and lines all around. But I can't find any of the cross drilled rotors for my 89 944NA. Can you all help me out?

And while I'm doing all of this is there anything else I should be replacing/lookin at while it is on jackstands?

Thanks

No opinion on the lights.

We recommend the factory mounts - they do seem to last longer.

No cross-drilled for your application that I know of. Standard Zimmerman (OE) or gas-slotted Zimmerman are readily available.

Always a good idea to poke around whenever the car's lifted - look for signs of abnormal wear and tear. Wiggle all the joints, especially the rubber ones like that of the stabilizers, struts, and other steering and suspension components.

Good Luck!

OK,
the headlight upgrade is from sealed beams to housings that will have a replaceable bulb. you can aim them, simple to do with a wall and some tape, it is in the haynes manual I believe. I have 50/60 watt piaa super whites that I really like and have a kind of xenon look. some guys go to 80/100 watt bulbs but then you should probably put in a relay for the higher wattage bulbs. The main value of the H4 upgrade is the better light pattern that is thrown by the euro lenses.

I assume you have addressed the timing and balance belts to save yourself money long run.

The brakes are easy to do. Check wheel bearings and front ball joints when you are down there. Cross drilled rotors have no perf. value. The solid ones are cheaper, get those. Steel lines are a nice upgrade for a firm pedal, get lined DOT approved ones. probably no need for new calipers, maybe you could rebuild? I really like Hawk hps pads, can get those are vertexauto.com

I don't know about mounts, check archives but I think the factory ones are best.

Hey Crazandy,

I got my Zimmerman cross-drilled rotors for my 86 na from <a href="http://www.944online.com/home.htm" target="_blank">944.com</a> Talk to Ian. He was very helpful and the prices were GREAT! (I have no affiliation w/them other than being a satisfied customer)

Nope, those are just halogen replacement bulbs for the stock ones, and certainly are not the HID lamps you see on the newer Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, Acuras, etc. Upgrade kits are available for about $700-1500, but they don't operate as well as the OEM ones.

Since they are DOT-approved lights, they have the centralized bright-spot lighting pattern, not the wide & even e-code pattern seen on European cars. A better upgrade would be to install the Cibie e-code lamps and higher-wattage bulbs that IceShark has been selling:

Use the official Porsche engine holder:

For the money, don't bother with cross-drilled rotors. You won't be able to notice any kind of a difference in stopping distances or power. If anything, you'll have to replace your pads and rotors more often. See these threads:

While you have the cross-member off, it's not too much more time or money to take off your oil-pan and replace the con-rod bearings too...

Those are the Hella DOT lenses called Vision Plus, more commonly known by those that own them as "Vision Minus." You don't want to have them.

Well this is how its gonna happen. I'm gonna buy 4 OEM brake rotors, 4 of the kevlar pads, the brake lines, and pad sensors. Hopefully the'll come by next week and then i'll goto my friends house to insall all of this. And if I can get a set of the Cibie lights from Iceman soon enough i'll do them while i'm there too. O ya I better pick up some brake fluid while i'm at it.
