Also, whats the purpose of Indexing? What does this do? Arent we finished after the ride-height is set?
Indexing is what sets the initial ride height.

There are several procedures/descriptions out there, but I found these to be pretty good.

http://www.oz951.com/public/docs/Torsionbarsetup.doc

http://www.brooksbabies.com/porsche/inst8.htm

http://www.elephantracing.com/projec...ngplatediy.htm

I just completed this a few weeks ago and my suggestion would be to make sure you completely understand the procedure before you start. I did a bunch of math and was still way off on the 1st go around. Re-indexed once and got it right where I wanted it. Re-indexing isn't that bad, but it can be frustrating and time consuming.

I used it as an opportunity to replace brake lines, bushings and other things, so it took me quite a bit longer than just indexing would have.

What year auto do you have?

N/A's stock rear t-bar is 23.5 mm.

Stock t-bars should be 23.5mm, unless they're M030. Then they could be 24.5 or 25.5, depending on year and model.

Indexing the t-bars is just a fancy name for adjusting them to obtain the proper ride height.

And as for words of encouragement; "You can do it!"

Here is my write up on doing basically the same thing:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showt...ension+upgrade

There is an Excel program that can help you with the torsion bar reindexing there, came from Joe P.

Good luck!

Okay.

I did the Torsion bars, Larger Sway, and Front Coils yesterday.
Not bad. Took me about five hours. And indexing isn't a pain if you measure it out. I pulled out the calipers, measured and took some notes (Compressed, Resting, etc) , then calculated the estimated droop for the new diameter T-Bar. I got it right the first time.

The car is level and stiff as hell. I love it.

Thanks for the help everyone!

The new rear Koni Adjustables in position.

In the middle of the Job, with everything still hanging.

The car's new stance.

Giving the Koni's a twist.

Hey, you got it done. That wasn't too bad, was it?

It looks like your front is a little too high compared to the rear. It may just be because of the way the car is situated on the sloping driveway.

What and where's your first event?

Yeah, the driveway shot kind of misleads the eye because of the tiny slope. I parked it next to a wall and took a walk away from it and it looks much, much better.

The car is going to be autocrossed mostly, with the occasional trackday thrown in. The first event is in Williamsport, PA on April 25-26. You coming?

Also, I wanted to do the Pocono day last weekend, but I didnt even know about it. Would those events allow a Harness and Harness Bar? or are they strict when it comes to safety?

I will be in Hershey that weekend so won't be able to go.

For some reason autocross never interested me. I went to a couple and watched, and it never stirred any enthusiasm. The competition part would be cool, but driving around on an artificial course for one lap isn't enough for me.

Who was running the Pocono day last weekend? Requirements all depend on who is running the show. I do DE's with the PCA and they have their own safety requirements. Harnesses and bars are allowed if installed properly with race seats. If you use the stock seats, then the standard 3-point belts are acceptable.

Im not sure who was running it, Im asking around.

Do they still care about expiration dates on the belts?

My region does. Harnesses manufactured in 2004 or earlier must be replaced.

And if you have an early car with steel control arms, you have to have them gusseted or boxed.

Because the early arms are just two pieces of steel that are spot welded together. Under high loads at the track, they can separate. I guess the PCA witnessed several of these failures and put this requirement in.

I can dig up the thread if you want. But the idea is to weld 1/8" strips of steel to each of the three sides of the a-arm. It makes it much stronger.

I can dig up some photos of mine also. But will need to wait til tonight when I get home.
