I eyed shiftstyle for getting a replacement boot for my 325 in alcantera, but never sprung for it. The 944 boots are so unique that I wouldn't get one from someone who wasn't a specialist.

I got a boot kit from http://www.aglausa.com/ and stainless cap from Rennbay, and it even matched my crazy dark blue interior perfectly (which Travis at Rennbay doesn't stock, sadly). The stainless cap from Rennbay was a must; I scarred the plastic one getting it out, and then broke it putting it back in! Only drawback is that thing will brand your palm in the summer! Which is kinda badass I guess, having 1-2-3-4-5-R burned into your hand.

It took a bit of rubber malleting though.

but shiftstyle says if they dont list your car, they will make one for free. so if it isnt good quality stuff, whats to loose?

I had the same problem installing my shift boot. What I found was usefull was to take a box cutter/blade and shave part of the outside ring of the platstic ****. It allowed the cap and leather to seat inside such a tight fit.

DUH, that's a GREAT idea... just take some sand paper (or dremel and a hobby vice) and thin it out a little... or a dab of glue... !

Me too....I had to trim the leather around the base trim too so it would fit onto the console neatly and snap into position tight.

The aluminum cap is great...after I had the boot lined up, and the cap started I need to cover a piece of wood with a rag and use a mallet to tap the cap down...just make sure its where you want it!

OK why does mine sit so high?



Got it from Performance Products years ago and the local wrench installed it. When you row through the gears to the outer-point gears like reverse or second, the boot snaps off around the bottom edge at the console because the leather is stretched too far. Everyone elses I look at, the shifter sits much lower and theres like a baggie of leather with room to maneuver. With mine its like all stretched high.

How do I investigate this and correct. Remember, Im stupid, so dumb it down for me. Talk to me like Im a 9 year old. Thanks.

Can someone please post a picture of the installed stainless cap with a black interior? I am considering buying the Rennbay cap, but I just want to make sure it does not look out of place.

bump. why is my shifter boot so dang high and stretching the leather?

Is your shifter **** sitting on top of that u-shaped clip rather than the clip going through the shifter **** after the **** is put on?

I dont know. What clip. I didnt put it on. If I unsnap the bottom off the console, what should I be looking for.

OK my stuff under the shifter doesnt look like the Rennbay stuff.

See photos after I pull the boot up and pull up on the whole boot to slide up a couple inches on the shifter linkage.

I dont see a clip anywhere. Just a rubber bushing type thing on the bottom. The boot will not push down any further than where I have placed that rubber thing at the bottom -- but even moving the rubber thing down a little more, the boot will not going down further than that. Thats as far as it will budge. Just using the rubber thing as a point of reference as to where it butts up to.

There is no play AT ALL once it reaches that point. You could take a hammer to the top of the boot and its not going down further. What gives.
