Post Servicing and tyre pressures (Sorry, a bit long)

My son's '89 S2 (now mine - I'm very happy to say) had been off to a shop for an electrical problem.
This was a guy, a supposed Porsche guru, working from a shed out in the sticks of Kent and my son, Niall, had had his car towed there by the AA 'cause it wouldn't start - after the AA had cut out his alarm system in an effort to get it going when there was no spark after he’s removed the battery to charge it up indoors. (They made him sign a disclaimer against any damage).
Anyway after about 2 months with nothing happening to the car Niall said to the man “Give it service – oil & filters etc – and get the electrics fixed ‘cause my dad’s coming to take it to Scotland).
Sorry this is going on a bit.
After paying the bill for over £600 (and that was just for the electrics) we picked up the car and drove it home and for about 4 miles Niall took it up to 115 - 120mph just to show his dad what a good car he was selling me.
That’s OK – I was a driving instructor for 16 years – very little frightens you after that - BUT - when I checked the tyre pressures the next morning the left front was reading 10psi and the others were all WAY out– now THAT was alarming.
BUT it does indicate that these cars are SO forgiving with their tyre pressures that (a) We didn’t crash (b) That the bloody mechanic hadn’t properly serviced the car. (For sure – ‘cause when I fitted a K&N filter the one already in there hadn’t been changed for about 10 years AND with the service history showing some very well known British Porsche dealers)
So I run my tyres at what the handbook says for the S2 – 36 & 36 and I now do all my own servicing. At least I now know it’s done properly (although I’m going to have to find someone reliable enough to do the clutch when it gives up the ghost after the 255,000+ that it’s already done. Anyone know of a good shop north of Glasgow - and THAT'S a four hour drive from here.

Yes - more than a quarter of a million MILES on the original rubber clutch. (I do drive with my fingers crossed - it MUST ge sometime)
Still on original exhaust too.
And the way they don't change the air filter on S2's when it's in for service, IT was probably the original as well

See the post "Servicing & tyre pressures"
If my son had had that information it would have saved him £600.
Disconnecting the battery had the effect of the alarm system cutting the power to the coil (and presumably the pump)even when the battery was re-installed
