Post Car is slow starting in the rain

All right guys here's a general question. Every time it rains really hard my car is really slow starting up for the first time. I generally have to turn the key several times. I'd hate to get stranded some day going to work because it decided not to start. My thought was that it was a bad connection in my battery cables or is there something else i'm not thinking about. If it's just my battery cables it'd be a great excuse to get the Ice Shark cables. As always thanks in advance.

Is the starter slow in turning over or is the motor taking a long time to finally fire off?

The car doesn't turn slow at all, it just takes a long time to finally fire up (usually 2-3 extended turns of the key). Thanks guys.

Then I would first take a look at the ignition. If those plug wires are old and cracked they can arc like crazy. Go out some dark night with a spray bottle, mist them and watch what happens. If a light show, you found your problem.

Also, as mentioned, make sure the battery compartment isn't leaking into the passenger footwell.

Distributor cap. Had same thing happen in my old Suzuki Samuari. In the rain it would start but bog down and stall, after the engine warmed up it was okay.

Yes, I once owned a Suzuki Samuari. I used to call it the Kung Fu Piece of Pooh.

I've actually ridden in a samurai before, and lived to tell about it. You can seriously feel it sway side to side sometimes....

Thats interesting because my Samuari was quite stable in cornering. I had it probably 3-4yrs through HS and starting college and never came within a mile of feeling like I was going to roll it. As long as I didnt do anything stupid it felt quite safe.

It was a piece of crap though. Noisy as hell and colder than hell in the winter, even with the heat on full blast. One day it was so cold after an hour drive I could still see my breath in the car. I guess I shoulda got the hardtop. Anyway, mine had A/C in it and if you think 911 A/Cs suck, this one was strictly ornamental.

I had people on roller skates beat me from 0-60 in that thing. It was incredible in the snow though for such a small POS.

Examine the battery connections where they bolt onto the battery. Had a Maxima that had a hairline crack in the connetor that goes on the terminal and it was just enough to give me starting problems when it rained.
Unusual but possible.
