Post Paint

My '83 944 has terribly faded / oxidized paint. Nothing seems to work. Any hope here? How much is a decent paint job cost. The car runs great, but could use a cosmetic boost. Looks like original paint is Guards Red.

Have you tried to buff the car with some 3M rubbing compound using a nice clean wool pad, followed by a 3M polish using a foam pad. I believe that the gaurd's red is cryl, or one stage paint, meaning that the color and clear are sprayed onto the car in one step rather than two steps like with basecoat, clearcoat. If you do decide to buff the car and the paint is cryl you will notice that your buffing pad will turn red, because you do pull color when you buff a single stage paint job, this does no harm. Also only buff on your car if you have experience, you can create alot of damage to your car with a buffer if you do not know what you are doing! Generally a single stage paint job fades alot worse and alot quicker than a two stage paint job.
