Post HELP! Vibration in Shifter (924S)

My friend recently bought a 88 924S and there seems to be a problem related with the shifter.
There is a vibration in the shifter at 3000RPM, in every gear, it does it when you drive and when in neutral. They have already changed the timing belt, balance shaft belt & rear cv joints.
There seems to be some play in the drivers side motor mount.
Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing the vibration??
thanks

The motor mount typically cause vibrations at idle. A 3k rpm vibration is normally from a balance shaft alignment issue. A common problem is that the lower balance shaft pulley gets installed on the wrong keyway. Pull the cover off and first check to see if the balance shafts are properly timed. If that is correct look at the lower pulley. If you can see the letter "o" through the hole in the cover washer, then the pulley is installed incorrectly.

No problem. In case you don't have the factory manuals, check out the following thread from the pelican board:

<a href="http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=68220" target="_blank">Major work done: Now a strange vibration?</a>

It has a couple of pages from the manuals showing the proper pulley installation.

Good luck with it.

Ahhhhhh HA! That's what that vibration is... I knew it, I knew it, I knew it, I knew it! I'm going to fix it when I 'visit' my car during the holidays.

Where can I get the special tool for the pulley???

Does it vibrate in neutral with the clutch disengaged at 3000 rpm's? If it does not. My guess is a bad clutch. also when slowing down in say 1st gear do you get a rocking and a thud with the clutch engaged? That is also a bad clutch.. Hope it is not. good luck. One last thing, even after the clutch change I get a minimal shudder in the shifter at about 2900, hardly noticeable. the slow down and thud is the indicator of a bad clutch, and the shudder at 3000 is pretty bad..
