Question Paint Job, Need rocker stone guards?

I'm working at an auto body shop over the summer before college. My boss says once he teaches me how to pull dents and paint, I can do my car and only pay for the supplies. This is really great because my paint looks like crap on the hood and has like 10 dents on the body and needs a new front valence. I'm debating between a new front valence from fiberwerks. I've found the stone guards for the usual areas on the car but i can't find the one's for the rockers. Anybody know where to get them.

By rockers to you mean the pebble grain on the bottom of the car? If so that's applied by a can of sprayed on rubbery substance. I think the stuff on my car came from Napa.

It is not a sticker, it's a coating. I removed mine, looks alot better IMO. I used the spray and the primer wrinkled when we sprayed over it. I've never seen primer wrinkle before! I just stripped mine off with aircraft remover and sanded it smooth.

The product is called Chip Guard, or Rock Guard. It is similar to rubberized undercoating, but had a paintable surface.

Others have run without, but they all have problems with major chipping.

You really want this stuff on the bottom of your car. It helps a lot.

Andy,

You are supposed to apply the sone guard over the top of the primer and then paint it. The product that I used was made by 3M and it was gravy to spray and ready fro paint within 20 mins.

Depends on the manufacturer. I used the Rubber Seal stuff (made by Spies Hecker) to compliment my paint. It specifically states that it is to be applied, allowed to flash off for 15 min, then painted immediately with base coat.

Don't know if the 3M or PPG stuff is different, so read the can.

Yes, you definitely want it on there, but you should be careful if you decide to remove it. One of the reasons I got such a good deal on my 951 is that when PO had it painted they opted to grind this coating off and evidently got into the metal underneath, causing some rust (and we all know our cars don't rust, at least under normal conditions). Price was negotiated accordingly. When I redo the rockers, it's going back on. Also, on my n/a, ran over some items that had fallen off of a truck in front of me at about 45 mph, one of them hit the driver side rocker and put a deep gouge in the rocker guard but it didn't get to the metal. Had the stuff not been there, who knows ?
