Fuel Lines - All please read, Fire hazard!!!
Look at my other post <a href="http://forums.rennlist.com/forums/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=15&t=007189" target="_blank">other post</a> if you haven't already done so to fill you in on the background.
I stopped by an "independant" European car mechanic this evening - I drive past this place every day and they always have porsches there - they've even got 3 ferrari's there right now! I was asking the lady at the front desk about getting my injectors cleaned, and if they have a sonicator. I obviously asked way more than she knew, so she went and got Louis, their Master Porsche mechanic. He was extremely helpful, and really nice - we spent about 20 minutes talking about 944's. Turns out he's had 4 944's and is just about to sell his 911 to buy another 951 because he misses them...
Anyway to cut through it all, I tell him about the tiny cracks in my hose and he said DO NOT DRIVE IT!!!!! He went on about some horror stories about 944's catching fire, etc, because of the poorly designed hoses. We discussed several other things, then I left and came home.
I pulled off my fuel hose, and this is what I found when I straightened it out!!!!
Imagine my horror! You can see where I clamped the hose (see other post), and it obviously did not cause all of those other cracks. If I hadn't clamped the hose, then I would have never removed it and seen the underside!
Well obviously I am changing it, but I will also be changing my main fuel hoses too with the braided fuel lines from <a href="http://www.speedforceracing.com/fuellines.html" target="_blank">speedforce racing</a>
THE MORAL OF MY STORY: Please - if any of you have not changed your fuel lines, do it immediately - don't take your time about it. They are a known problem, and a ticking time bomb. It will cost you maybe $150. That may be a lot for some of you - it's a lot for me too! But it's worth it for peace of mind. I just think - what if I'd let my wife drive it and an engine fire started - I'd never forgive myself if she got hurt. REMEMBER: I have an '88 - how many of you have fuel lines older than mine?
Now for a quick question - someone mentioned 944's have one FPR, and one "damper". Can someone tell me which is which, and what the damper does?
Thanks for listening. Go do the right thing.

Couldn't agree more...
Ordered my SFR Fuel Lines when I ordered the Cat Back. I plan on replacing the "little" hose as well.
Now, as for SFR...
Tim - I got the Cat Back, still waiting on the Fuel Lines.

That is a very sad occurance unto itself.
And this post further emphasises why I am getting the new fuel lines as soon as my 86 951 gets to winston-salem.

Right, thanks. I just bought a new one as a spare, because I heard they frequently crap out. Asked the parts guy what dme stood for and he didn't know! Another mystery solved.
