Post 944S flow #'s

does any one know what the stock flow numbers are on the stock 944S head. I hered that it was in the area of 340.

the stage 3 P&P of the 8V, from lindsey will make 240

Im just debating on what approach to take with my 951. I just got a sweet deal on a S head and im about to send it off to be rebuilt/modded and im not really shure where to go with it.

any sugestions or comments

Ok I am completely out of my element here but has anyone ever heard of replacing the 8V head on the 951 with a 16V and some sort of custom made for the application intake manifold? If this is possible, what advantages would there be?

I dont think a 944S head will bolt up to a 951 block...could be wrong though...

this was discussed a while back (using a 16v head on an 8v) but i think the conclusion was it provides a fairly minimal advantage for the cost to install and the greater chance of it breaking. search the archives, i know it's come up at least once...

the stock 951 head flows about 160 cfm per intake runner.

the S is about 300. so the flow is there.

now with lowering the compression to 8.0 to one. with a different intake that flows more then the stock 140. and whala. instant flow.

the S will directly bolt up to a 951 block. after all they are all the same block. with some minor differences. like the water pump depth.

but the S head will not be much of an improvement witht he stock intake manifold. that is the restriction. so in that aspect you are right.

the exhaust valves are a little smaller promoting more velocity going to the turbo and thus a faster spool up.

you will need things like a bigger turbo (more CFM) and some other things. intake being one of them.

but all I want are the stock vs the modded flow numbers.

huntley, derek. what can you make this head do?

IIRC, the S head has slightly differen water jackets than an 8V head. It's not a direct bolt on. I've heard of people doing this mod, though.

Back and forth... back & forth...

Ok, here's the summary, all the 2.5L heads and blocks can interchange. This means 944 <--> 951 <--> 944S.

Then all 3.0L blocks and heads can interchange, 944S2 <--> 968.

Question

I started another thread about this but since you guys are talking about almost the same topic I'll ask here too.

Will a 944S intake manifold bolt onto an S2 head? Ignoring issues of flow and restricion for the moment, would it physically work?

Danno-As usual, I bow to your superior knowledge. I was thinking of the S2 head on a 2.5 block. Thanks for the correction....
