went to the autocross.
to put it in short: I loved it.
no power steering did not bother me one bit.
the car felt great. for as much as I could, I loved sliding it and not loose control of it. the car just keeps asking for more! the brakes feel great, definetly plenty of stopping power!
now, first run I did, I went really slow because it's my first time and I wanted to learn the track. 2nd time I tried to go around faster - but I found out after the first FAST u-turn that my tires REALLY RUB! on the body of the car. later on I found out where.
After that U-turn I just decided to go slow again, to keep my tires safe. So my 1st run was 88secs. And 2nd run was 83 secs and off course (I missed a 3 cone slalom) - then the event was unfortunatly stopped because of something that happened.
There was another 1986 silver 944 with 15" phonedials and 215/55/15 tires, and he was doing great, sliding through like he's supposed to! but I missed the times he got. He was definetly not held back by issues I was having.
So now I know what I need to do next: change the tires. Register wtih PCA and SCCA. And get ready for next season!
Here are some shots:

1st instructor said that I should definetly try faster. But they were all cool and he really didn't yell or said anything because I was pretty much getting aquainted with the track. The 2nd guy said I should definetly check my tire problem, but overall I did great.
So I hope to get some good tire on there and try it out next season.
Also, the other 944 was a father/son. Son drove. Dad took pictures. At one point it ended up being just 2 of us on the track. Going the same way on opposite sides of the track. And then going the same way on the track. They are supposed to e-mail them to me at some point. So I'll post those when I see them.
For now, that's all the news I have!

glad you had a good time.
how are your tires rubbing? what wheels are you running? look like the rears need to come out towards the fenders more...

not in the rear, but in the front!
I was way more focused on the fronts; from a search, it appears that 225/50 MIGHT rub in front on certain wheels; and they rub if the car is lowered
so I guess I'll have to get a set of tires smaller then 225/50
gota play with that tire calculator

Took me a second to figure out why the buildings in the background looked familiar, then I realized that it's the Rochester Institute of Technology where I got my Bachelors. Nice smooth parking lot even if there are a lot of grass islands to work around. I ran my first event in my 944 as well this weekend, but it was a struggle with 9 year old all-seasons.

It's addicting! Be prepared to do much more auto-crossing, and thinking about it 24/7.
You can tell where tires are rubbing by clean marks on the fender well, shock tower, or fender lip.

Your car looks nice and shiny, Roman. Congrats on the successful Autocross. That's how most of us start - then we graduate to the track.
See you at Watkins Glen some time!

you have a lot of body roll. How old are your front struts? I know when mine were toast if I took a turn hard enough the wheel would rub. I would recommend upgrading if you haven't, you'll be amazed at how much better a full set of koni's and a set of 200lb springs will improve the handling. Then change your sway bars.

Congrats and be prepared...it is addicting.
225/50 should work up front. I would look into some of the things that have already been mentioned; however, have you had an allignment latley? There could be too much/little camber causing the rubbing.
