Post Another Door Issue - Something's Binding Up

This picture is of the side of the door when you take the latching assembly off. My point of this pic is if you look in the vertical slot that's what I see as I lock and unlock the door. But there is a pin that is attached to the latch itself that fits in there. And once that's installed it will impede the movement of that little lever that's in the bottom pointing to the top right. (I made it a negitive so that showed up better.)

When that assembly is connected the whole locking mechanism is solid and will not budge. With that removed I can lock and unlock the door. (Either by hand from the unlock/lock button.) But I feel a distinct binding midway through the travel of the lock. And only when it's in the unlocking motion. The looking action is smooth.

It just feels like two pieces of metal are sliding against each other in their movement and one of them has a "burr" or something on an edge that seems to be catching the other piece. But I can't see anything of course. And from what I've seen in the past the '91 S2 has the anti-theft "feature" that requires removal of the entire window track to get out the locking mechanism itself. I hope that's not true. Because I'm not able to wiggle that stuff out of there. I took out the screw that holds in the handle itself, but have not disconnected anything. Do I need to do the process on a 968 door handle replacement to get in there to remove the mechanism in there?

I'm sure if I had the piece in front of me I could see where it was binding up and fix it.

Thanks a ton!

I had a similar problem when reinstalling the latch in the jamb, that the whole mechanism was jambed solid. In my case, I just had to remove the latch, unlock the mechanism and reinstall the latch again. (Maybe I had to lock it--I can't remember exactly. Just do the opposite of what it currently is.)

I guess it's possible that there are two issues at work. One is that I have the lock reversed and that should be easy enough to fix since it's all apart anyway. Then the second is this binding or rubbing I feel when I move the arms inside by hand. It just doesn't feel smooth in the middle where it catches for a bit.

OK. I figured out something at least. I think. I took the door handle off of the outside of the car and just cleaned that up a bit. And I after I reinstalled it (thanks to icat's directions) now I can't even squeeze the handle at all. It has zero movement. And that is with the power door lock motor arm disconnected and the outside latch removed.

Any thoughts? It seems like somethings reversed or completly stuck due to my install.
