Default Carbureted 944 race car on eBay

Very interesting retrofit! Just thought it was worth sharing and discussing if this seems like a legit 250hp motor. Never seen a 944 with the EFI removed.

EBAY LINK

I'd love to hear it run!

WOW! A tuning nightmare, but I've wondered what ITB's on a 944 would sound too.

ok, so let me get this straight, everyone says you cant get much more power out of an NA, AND i was under the assumption that EFI gave you MORE power and efficiency that carburetion. Im quite confused right now... can someone please enlighten me?

You get +100hp when you list it on eBay. Have you been living under a rock?

Holbert Racing/Michael Mount 2.5L 8V engine, 8K rpm redline

13.5:1 compression, 48mm Weber carbs (custom intake), SCP oil pump, Patterson tank w/heater, 2 oil filters, Electromotive crank fire ignition, solid lifters, JE pistons

That should get it pretty close. But not streetable and not cheap.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say that he might be getting 250hp out of it. If it's set up and tuned properly, 13.5:1 compression and an 8k redline would make some serious power in any engine. I'd like to know what all is in that motor, and I'd like to know why they chose to run carbs on it instead of modifying the EFI.

I wonder if it'll run on 87 octane?

Pretty cool build, but wish there were more pictures. not sure why one would retrofit carbs, as is more tunable with EFI and will almost definitely produce more power. OTOH with carbs tuning is much simpler, but with all the effort put into the car and motor a trick standalone fuel management system would be far more attractive.

one was an n/a and irrc the other one was an s2!

that thing takes at least 93 with that compression.

that thing is pretty amazing. now we know what to do so we can steal his ideas at less cost >:]

someone buy it, seems like a decent price for a setup like that
