I hate to do it but...
I am almost forced to trade in my 944 for another cheap car that'll get me through winter. I recently bought my E46 M3, and there is no way I'm salting her up, and I'd feel horrible driving the 944 in it's first winter in 24 years! (was a San Diego car.) So due to the lack of interest in selling it; I tried auto trader and craigslist with a few calls but nothing more, and the fact that I can't fund a third car because I am moving in a few weeks... It might have to be traded in. So far I've been looking from Subaru's to Jeeps, mainly looking out for something with AWD or 4X4, and something I can whip around a little in the snow. Theres a 99 subaru Legacy GT (Sedan) for about $3,500... I know I'll take quite a hit trading in a 944 to a dealer but what else can I do!?!?!

that sucks... come visit me and see how M3's are supposed to drive.
and as for the blizzaks... you really think it'd be fine? the road I'm moving to has a few stops at the top of steep hills. I am truley dreading this winter, I've survived a winter in an 89 325i with 4 bald tires, but I work much earlier now, on the road at 5:45am... I don't even see my road being touched by the plow trucks that early.

I've driven 944's through the New Hampshire winters before.. a set of 205 Blizzaks and the car was great in the snow.. Having an LSD helps for max grip but is not entirely needed. 944's have near perfect weight distribution and get around quite well in the slippery conditions. Obviously, not as well as an AWD vehicle, but certainly well enough to get you around..
I say drive it

Question: How much of a hit will you take trading it to a dealer?
If you are willing to sell it to a dealer for that little, add say 15-20% to cover sales tax and extra agrivation and sell it to a lister.
Of course if a lister wants it he she has to read this now, contact you now, and get their act together because you will not have time to go back and forth with the impending purchase and fundage issues.
that's how i bought my miata. the guy was about to sell it to carmax, added a few hundred $ to what he was going to get, i hopped on a train with $ to DC from NYC and drove it home.

I have a set of snow tires for sale, Michelin Pilot Alpin 195/65R15s, worked great in the snow for me, never got stuck.
All you need is some early offset 15's, unless u already have spacers (with those twists) then you can buy my 15" late offset phone dials too.

You can get a legacy for a lot less than that. There's one for sale here that runs and passes inspection, has a spare engine and transmission, a spare set of r-compound wheels/tires, and a spare set of rally tires all for $1000. Granted the thing has like 200k miles and it was a rallycross car but still, what better winter beater?

if you want fun and awd...dodge stealth tt. you might have to pay out 2g on top of your sale, but they are fun as hell(320hp,315tq) very good looking, and decent in snow, not the best but with the right tires(not toyo proxes...long story) it'll have no issue with grip.

You should have kept your stock wheels as narrower is better for snow. Still want to trade for some turbo phones?
