Post sticking starter???

On occasions, it takes a long time to get the car to fire... usually when it is cold and has been sitting over night. I have to hold the starter on for anywhere ranging from 2 seconds to 8 seconds. I've checked and replaced the DME relay, the problem still persists.

Is there another cause for this, help a newbie trouble shoot this one. Also got the drive shaft repaired, 450 bucks lighter but it could have been worse.

So is the problem with the starter engaging or the engine firing?
If it is with the starter engaging, I have had the same issues and am looking at replacing the grounds as IceShark suggested, as well as replacing/cutting out the corroded pieces of the main power wire to the starter.

the starter engages, but thre engine doesn't catch... kinda hard to explain I guess. When I start the car, thre starter moves, the engine turns over but the engine doesn't fire... it takes some bit of continuous cranking from the starter to get the engine running.

Sounds like the starter is fine, but it's more something with getting the engine to start. Well does the starter turn the engine at the normal starting speed or does it seem to struggle?

When the starter was bad in mine I would turn the key to hear nothing. Almost seemed like a bad ignition switch as turning the key did diddly.

Mine does this too. Haven't figured it out yet. I've replaced the plugs, wires, distributer cap, coil and fuel filter so far. No go. I also cleaned up all the grounds and the battery and starter terminals, and nothing. Some people have suggested it might be bad flywheel sensors, do a search for that.
