"Just some food for thought. if you want to talk politics lets move to the off topic thread. then we will disregard the one thing us posters have in common (a car) see all our differences and realize if not for the car we probably wouldn't be able to stand one another!"

You know, that hit it right on the head!!! No matter where you go and who you meet in the world, everyone's different. And yet, if you look for it, you can always find something that you can share with someone else. In many ways, we have more in common than we think; just gotta look for it!

I guess more accurate reports always takes years and decades to come out (sometimes never). It follows the saying about the conquerer getting to rewrite history in their favor. And no one ever knows the whole story anyway. Here's a good example. Do a little research and find out how many German soldiers were killed in concentration-camps by the allies AFTER the end of WWII...

Sometimes, there are beliefs we cling to simply because we don't want to face the horrors of the conflicting ideas.</strong><hr></blockquote>

ABSOLUTELY!!! I've been saying for YEARS that we only see what we're meant to see. Like OJ Simpson & the British nanny (ALLEGED baby killer- around same time frame)- EVERYONE was 100% ABSOLUTELY SURE they knew what happened in each situation- they knew all the details of both events, as if they'd actually been there themsevles! SO MANY people were COMPLETELY across the country, and didn't know OJ, Nicole, the nanny, etc from Adam's FU**ING house cat!

Another example is the Kansas City Massacre (June 17, 1933)- one of my personal interests as it was NEVER proven who REALLY participated that day (w/the exception of one). The FBI (back then- The Bureau led by Hoover) really pulled the wool over the eyes of the public, and did some genuinely shi**y things to many people- Hoover was as bad as, or maybe worse than, most of the criminals he was after. The massacre was really started by an agent sitting in the back seat of the car, and the attackers VERY LIKELY only killed 1 of the 4 cops that were killed- the cop even killed the prisoner whom they were TRYING to return to Leavenworth. Anyway, it wasn't until just a few years ago that the real facts started surfacing and a few new books were written about the KCM. People are finally starting to find out what really happened- of course, it was so long ago, that there's much that will NEVER be known- unfortuantely, it's a little late for justice to be served (here on Earth anyway)...

Well, that's enough typing for now, but I'm still amazed at how many people forget that what they read in the papers or what they see on TV, comes from other people- even when some of the things are proven, these people put their own opinions into it, and sometimes are only allowed to give certain details to begin with- freedom of speech- yeah right!

Speaking of KC wasn't it KC's famous neighbor and habedashire Harry T. That said he read seven newspapers a day just so he could get half the facts of any issue.

Danno is right, I could tell you about some seriously wrong **** that happened in the Gulf War. I was on one of the first ships into the Gulf prior to the GW, and was one of the last to leave...approx. from Oct-May. We did shore bombardments and provided air cover, mostly within sight of the coast of Iraq.

Example: A ship we were tasked with had a VERY aggressive captain. He decided to "occupy" an offshore oil platform, near the Iraqi coast.

The workers were waving white flags as the ship approached, then one or more of the workers who refused to surrender fired small arms at the ship. (woulndt you try to defend your home, even against insurmountable odds?) Small arms to a US destroyer is like mosquitos to my windshield at 120, little spots to clean up with a rag. The captain put about 4 Harpoon missiles into the platform. Everyone dies.

This ship is later given a Silver Star (I wanted to puke) but the award is revoked, because the same captain had too many other "incidents". I even heard that he locked his CHENG (chief engineer) in his state room for "insubordination". Like it is a bad thing when someone tries to inject a bit of sanity in an insane situation. I do know that he also ran into (how the hell do you run into anything with a 500' destroyer?) at least 2 other US vessels.

Now, I was there, I spent months alongside this ship and spoke to many of the crew. But nothing about this was ever on TV, or in the press. A friggin wild-*** moron with access to a serious amount of firepower, and not a peep.

If you believe that ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, ect. report the "truth", you should probably take a look at the investors in those companies.

I took a higher-level Comm. class at State a few years ago. It was very eye-opening to discover that almost all media on the planet is controlled by about 12 families/corporations. Can you say, "Biased?"

And this is all in a way P-car related. After 9/11, the US public voluntarily decided to give up a whole boatload of freedoms, in exchange for "security". The same security that sends visas to dead terrorists, and allows 17 year-olds to fly small planes into buildings in Florida. The same security that is putting up cameras all over the country, even up and down the California coast as we speak. Can you say, "Facial recognition software?" Or how about "decreasing liberties"?

What if this same camera catches you speeding? Maybe it spots you speeding 10 times. They have your face and car on a digital record, and now the computer decides you are a "highway terrorist" because you have sped 10 times in less than a year. Now you get your car siezed by "law enforcement" and you get to spend some quality time with the local as*-rapist in jail. Thanks! Mr. Homeland Security!

With long-nosed busy-bodies, like the author of the post we have all been bashing, attempting to legislate our behaviour, who needs external threats?

What this country needs is a big healthy dose of Thomas Jefferson scepticism. With some Ben Franklin logic and a fat dollop of Founding Father Freedom-Loving.

The current US government DOES NOT have the interest of the common US citizen at heart. Those guys sit at the top of the worlds biggest money machine, do you think they are immune to the lure of Solomon's wealth? Please...you did know that Dubya was an oil-man for years right? Can you say, "I live in a pocket?"

Bah...disillusionment sucks. I wish I was a kid again and completely unconcerned about the raping of America.

By the way... does it not bother anyone else that there were NO Afghani's in the planes on 9/11? But yet that country has SUFFERED the brunt of our anger for over 6 months. I have heard that the civilian casualty numbers on the ground in Afghanistan far exceed the numbers of dead in NYC.

I am an American, and I wept openly as I watched TV on 9/11. I felt anger like a tidal wave in my body, I wanted to reenlist.

But after 6 months of digging for "truth", I am not so sure of my anger anymore, and I feel a bit betrayed and misled by the "elected" government.

I didn't feel like reading all of the irrationally irate posts regarding this topic, so perhaps someone has already mentioned this:

Tom Magliozzi is also in favor of re-testing all drivers yearly when they hit a certain age. This would get a bunch of blue-hairs off the road. I know as a fact that if my Grandmother had been retested yearly she never would have been able to renew her license and would not have totalled her car.

The guy may be ranting, which is his right especially since it is his site, and he may be slightly off base, but you got to admit there are a lot of pinheads out there (including some of you) who really shouldn't be behind the wheel of a high horsepower vehicle.

Also, if you missed it, he and his brother Ray host a radio show about cars and car repair. They are a riot. Anyway, one morning they got a call from some rich ******* about what Z3 they should buy for their 16 year old, as a present for getting their drivers license. You have got to be ****ting me. Do you really think a newly licensed 16 year old needs a Z3?

I personally like the way (if I remember correctly) that folk get licensed for motorcycles in the UK. You have to start out on a bike no larger that like a 250 and basically earn your way up the ladder after you prove you can actually handle the thing.

Hey... he can write what he wants right? He's entitled to his opinion, whether we agree with it or not. The last time I checked, people were allowed free speech... in some countries anyway

Hey Mean ol Manning (MOM)

Here is the link to the responses to the bubble headed mother that wants to buy her little barbie doll a Z3.

Isn't it great to be old and see what youths thing is their right.

GM had a rule in the 60's no more than one horsepower to every 10lbs of car! Pontiac and maybe all of GM also had a rule that no cars in motion could be used in their ads. Hence the famous 68 GTO Woodward Ave ad.

Pontiac had to put a little restrictor on the 400 Firebirds to act as a rev limiter which essentially cut the horsepower to 1 for every 10lbs of car. Owners removed the clip.

I do not have a problem with what the guy is saying, my problem lies in the fact that he wishes to legislate behaviour. He can talk until he is blue in the face for all I care. But what he is proposing is a restriction in freedoms far beyond what is in the essay. He wants everyone in line with HIS view on what is appropriate.

At 16, I was a dumb punk driver with a fast car. I never got a ticket, I never put a scratch on my car or anyone elses'.

I certainly didnt fit into his preconcieved notion of what a young driver is. But yet I should still have to abide by his version of what a young driver is allowed? Bull****.

Just like my above rant, (probably why I am venting) the actions of a few should not determine the course of all. Its pigeon-holing an entire generation. IT IS BULL****!!!!

[quote] Do you realize that in some states in the South, interracial marriages are still ILLEGAL? <hr></blockquote>

I am pretty sure there are no longer any Jim Crow laws of this ilk in any state in the US. Most of laws that limited inter-racial marriage, called anti-miscegenation laws, were removed from the books in the 60's. South Carolina was perhaps the last to lift the ban (sadly it was not until a few years ago).

And, in fact, the laws were not limited to the South but were present in a majority of the states in the union.

Hey Bates, thanks for the link.

Ya know, I am not into the whole idea of regulating my fun, but who winds up paying for it in a lot of cases. When some dumbass without a helmet goes braindead because he laid his bike down, we all feel it in rising healthcare costs and insurance rates. Same when some punkass teenager stuffs it into oncoming traffic or some moron in a huge SUV flips it onto another car on the freeway. I don't want to say you should not be able to have a sports car of your choice, but 1) earn the right and 2) remember there is a time and a place.

The public roads are not yours, they are ours and I think that is why Tommy feels some vehicle types should be regulated.

Oh, he hates SUVs too.

We all pay into rising healthcare cost and insurance premiums, for a whole hell of a lot more reasons than some kids making mistakes.

We pay for fat-cat pharmecutical companies, and for government lobbyists. We pay more for the ever growing +60 sector in this country. The very fact that medicine is improving will cost billions, due to people living longer and using more resources.

We pay more for the fact that "personal injury" lawyers and lawyers in general have convinced this country that cash is your "right" as a "victim".

My point is that WE pay. WE should be allowed to choose, whether its a Z3 for the kid, or a 911TT for me. ANd if my kid kills himself, well, he could just as easily have been killed by an accident of another type,... or cancer from the chemical wasteland we call many parts of America. (Especially the East Coast) Who pays for that?

WE ALL DO. (But yet I never seem to have recieved a check from the international conglomerate who dumped the toxins into the soil/water for 45 years to start it all up. I guess its a one-way street kind of thing.)

I am not a treehugger, but the practices of big business are shameful. As a whole, the American people are getting a deal that is really similar to the one the Indians recieved for Long Island.

Some beads and a blanket for our home.
