wow i totally disagree with you. the miata is an amazing sports car and handles about as good as the 944 does. only superficial people see it as a girl car because it doesn't have 200hp. the old british sports cars aren't so bad either. i don't totally agree with what he's saying but i admit he's got a point. too many people buy cars that they don't know how to or don't intend to operate safely and this leaves windows of oppurtunity for people to get hurt. still i wouldn't want that regulation imposed on me so i can't say i agree with it, i just understand where he's coming from

TimC:

The point I was making is......oh, why bother. I'm not going to argue. Too tiresome.

So people still read Ayn Rand? That's kind of quaint. I'd recommend Ludwig Wittgenstein as an antidote. Not the Tractatus though. Read his -Philosophical Investigations-.

You want Miata? You got MIATA! I like this one:

Let that moron plug this into his silly equations and twisted logic!

Well, I sent him this as a reply -

I hope and pray that the likes of you NEVER have the power to pull off your "left wing" socialist endevors. Who the hell do you think you are to dictate to me what I can and can not drive. I've owned sports cars all of my life and I've never endangered anyone while driving. I HAVE been greatly endangered by the mini van contingent who seem to believe that they are impervious to radar, the bubas in monster pick-ups, and the idiots who lay down an emission smoke screen that fogs the air for miles. My cars are licensed, inspected, and emissions legal - and they stay that way. The brakes, shocks, tires, oil, lights, safety belts, and other items are checked on a regular basis to ensure that I achieve the highest performance possible from my sports car. Find me a soccer mom who does that. You have no right in a free society to tell me or anyone else what I can and can not drive. If you see an idiot breaking the law - pull them over - but you will find that the vast majority of "sports car" owners are enthusiasts like me - and we save our performance for the track.

Wink

I too have driven an MGA, a Triumph TR-6, and a Fiat Spyder. Obviously his first drive in a REAL car scared hell out of him.

Seems like most of the morons are on this board. if it says porsche it must be a sports car - yeah right.

most of the people (and that term is used loosley) here think the more power a car has the more sport a car has. wrongo batman!!!!!!!!

there comes a time when a car doesnt need any more power. for you yungins that will be when you meet up with a jeep or hydrant or.....

WAIT, i stand corrected, im in the wrong place. this isnt a forum about sports cars, its about muscle cars. yeah thats it you kids think you have four cylinder muscle cars. Wrongo batman!!!!

At what point is enough enough for a ROAD CAR? I said ROAD CAR not RACE CAR. is there a difference between race cars and sports cars?

Thaddeus is right, stop worrying about it. try listening to the "moron's" show on public radio. see where he's coming from and then stalk the guy. in the meantime keep adding power to your cars so they are more sports car than the next car. and while your at it get you lady some implants so shes more a woman than the next woman.

YES MASTUR BATES- I've pondered the practicality of 600+HP cars for everyday street-driving grocery- getting purposes, and realize that I NEED a car like that about as much as someone needs an SUV for the same purposes. I've seen SUV driver's interviewed- when asked what "SUV" stands for, MANY do not even know- even fewer have EVER put them in 4WD. But do I run around whining- "those things should be illegal!"? Actually, I WOULD like to see fewer of them in my way, but it's really not my perogative to FORCEABLY (by law) keep people from having them, nor do I believe high taxes or BS fees, would be acceptable- I view that w/about the same disgust as the "luxury tax"- WTF is that? "LUXURY TAX" Oh, it's such a "LUXURY" to be driving a nice car- it's not something you NEED anymore, now it's a "LUXURY" You need to be TAXED to have such LUXURIES. The ridiculously high purchase price, insurance, and the extra built-in cost of FU**ING, BS air bags, whether you want them or not, is irrelevant. You need to give us more $$$- FU**ING BASTARDS!

There have been a lot of intelligent points made on this thread- I'd like to meet several of you one of these days

Water944T: "he's probably never owned a car w/one ball, much less two!" Well put!

Danno: for saying (basically)- "let's all get together and fu** with him!" Of course, I'd seriously do it if he lived close enough.

Keith (Redneckarslum): Where should I start? You brought up some VERY good points- I really don't think much of society realizes what type of times we're headed for if people don't fu**ing WAKE UP! About the only thing I think you left out were idiot's running around begging the government to take their guns away from them. Like FU**ING ROSIE ODONELL- what a BITCH! It's easy for that fat hag to run around saying BS like "NRA- WE are putting YOU on notice!" acting all self righteous when SHE'S got enough $$$ to shelter herself from society w/body gaurds and hired off-duty cops (w/guns all over them) to hang around her like some sleezy harem... BUT, no one's going to be taking guns away from policemen, and if you think that's okay, then you're dumber than dick dirt. There ARE SOME cops out there who are some of the best people on this earth, AND, there are SOME who are the worst. The big prob is that serious criminals aren't going to turn their's in anyway- just law abiding citizens that actually NEED them for simlple protection FROM the criminals and crooked cops. But, just b/c guns aren't offered for sale to people, doesn't mean that people can't access them, and/or MAKE them- (HAND) gun's have been around for over 150yrs- people make them in prison out of ink pens! Question: have you ever been stabbed? Everyone I know who's been both stabbed & shot, and I know a few, say they'd rather be shot. Being stabbed HURTS, BADLY, and there's NO WAY to get ALL sharp objects out of society. Getting rid of guns wouldn't help lower crime much. And don't even THINK about playing the "but what about the children?" card- bunch of BS! The problem- the root of ALL problems is: THERE ARE TOO MANY PEOPLE!

John Peck: for agreeing w/me

Dan/87/944: for the part about driving your SUV over some small cars to make you feel better- please try to spare Porsche owners (maybe roll over some of the snotty ones & the ones that don't consider our cars a "TRUE Porsche"). Oh, and try not to squish any really attractive women out there either- we need as many of them as we can get. But seriously, if you can find the jack *** that wrote the bullsh** that started this WHOLE thread- PLEASE, make sure you back over him afterward and then do it again- maybe a few times! If you find him in my area, call & come pick me up- so I can ride shot-gun and watch

Eirik: I really feel for you- I mean it man- that type of stuff ABSLUTELY SUCKS! Do you think it's possible to organize and revolt against it?

Keith Foster: That was an excellent and well written rant. Now, how the hell did you find out where to send it, and, where do I send mine?

Sorry guy's I know this was long- even longer than my usual replies- I've got to work on that...

Bates-It is ignorant people like you and the writer that make us not care for our fellow humans. Unintelligible arguments like that back up this point. Both me and the jeep guy said that we were not street racing in any way. Evidence for this is in the condition of our cars after the accidents. Its obvious you read all the posts so you would know all the facts, but you choose to use those that only back up your views but choose to ignore the facts that tell the complete story. I'm tired of ignorance like this from people like you and the writer. Like my facts about how the car was misaligned, the ground was slightly wet, the tires were cold, and my foot was on the gas, any or all could have caused it. Now if you want to argue ignorantly, then here is my ignorant reply to your ignorant messages:

Bates-You are just mad at us "children" cause your old *** cant get it up any more and us p-car driving kids keep nailing your wife while your at work playing with your writer boyfriends broken ding-a-ling, trying to get each other up so you can have some fun together. She cant keep her hands off sexy young studs like us who drive p-cars. Ask her. No wonder why you hate sports cars so much

I hope those last remarks were an example of irony. If not, it's pretty sad. A debate is lost by the first person who leaves the topic and gets personal. All that **** about being a 'stud' because you drive a particular car is just bollocks - guys with that attitude give the rest of us a bad name. Now where did I put my chest wig and medallion?

Paul,
First off thanks for all the spam for viagra you've been sending me. How did you know what I need. BTW is your sister the farm girl or the farm animal from the other spam i've been getting. Also thanks for keeping my wife satisfied while im at work. i was wondering why she was so much less bitchy lately. Youre a good man for that. maybe to repay you i will vote for you in the bad luck fund.

Nah i wont vote for you there but i will vote for you in the dumb f$ck fund. you are the reason tom or ray wrote the damn article. ive got more gripes about suv's (stands for sex und violence right or is it stupid useless vehicle)than anyone since im such an old fart and can remember the days of datsuns (rhymes with dinosaur) roaming the planet.

At least the kid that hit the jeep was man enough to admit there was probably something he could have done or something he could learn to avoid it next time.

but on behalf of you i will write my congressman here and your congressman in butthole, your state and ask that legislation be drafted to cover one car accidents that could not be avoided. please help me figure out a way to put the blame on the hydrant road weather or condition of car.

you cant figure out a way. maybe thats because you bought your dream car before you learned how to handle it. but the fact that you can handle my wife, now that makes you a man. now be a good little stud and go back to the article and read what was said.

your post alone is proof the guy is right!!

if you look at the archives you will probably find he ranted about suvs somewhere else too.

Oh and one more thing. its not my *** thats suppposed to get it up. hope the viagra spam youre sending me is for the proper type!

why i shouldnt buy a brand new BMW for my 16 year old daughter

Id bet some of pauls neighbors said similar stuff to whats on the above link. lets have a contest here and call it pin the post on the JA. which post from tom and rays responses fits pauls situation. yes there can be 12 different first place winners!

I just lost any desire to listen to "Click & Clack, the Tappet Brothers" ever again. The real issue isn't the amount of hp your car has or what you are driving, rather the responsibility for your own actions. Case in point, one of my favorite relatives was doa after being t-boned by an suv that ran a red light. The driver of said suv had a cell phone in her ear and was doing over 70 mph (twice the limit). What did she get for this stupidity? Community service!!! I nearly got clobbered this weekend in the same town by a 240 Volvo by a driver with the same affliction. Again I make the assertion that the problem is a lack of personal responsibility and consideration of others. The same goes for any form of gun control. While criminals shouldn't be allowed to buy one, why can't I have a machine gun, I'm a law abiding citizen who hasn't done anything. (Think carefully here before flaming this, I have been shot and left for dead by a carjacker.)

I have seen kids given new cars way past their ability for their 16th birthdays. That's really stupid! The kid should have to earn the money to buy whatever they can afford, if it's a Datsun 310GX, so what! If they have to pay for whatever, I think they will appreciate it more and think twice before getting stupid with it. And while you're at it make the young skulls buy their own insurance as well. Nothing like financial reality to instill a bit of responsibility. Then, auto-x should be a required subject in driver's ed. At least they'll know ahead of time just where the limits are with their cars and driver's ed would be a very popular course. Maybe then the rustangs and 'meros will be exposed for the crappy handlers they are.

Finally, a rant like the one on car talk doesn't surprise me. It is a NPR show, done by guys in the Socialist Republik of Taxachusetts. More people have died in Ted Kennedy's car than from my cars. And he's gotten away with it. What does that tell you about government and power?

Getting further right wing all the time,

Dave

Thank you Dave M- I know what you mean! About the machine guns- I about believe that we SHOULD be able to own them as law abiding citizens- we almost NEED them for protection against the many criminals and their arsenals (oftentimes full of fully automatic weapons). I know I'd like to have one...

Power is a serious drug, and it's SCARY how much of our rights are being methodically stripped away. This 9/11 thing really FU**ED things up too- I HATE the BS they're pulling at the airports- I would feel safer if they toned the security down a notch or two. Maybe tighten it up a little bit over what it was back then, but it's gotten ridiculous- I've said it many times- so far, the terrorist war has only negatively affected the law abiding citizens of our country- we'll lose more & more freedom while the SERIOUS terrorists will be doing business as usual- it really sucks! Now you HAVE to have ID to get on an airplane? I believe if you pay for a cash ticket at the gate, then you should be able to walk onto the plane after walking through security- of course, there shouldn't be cash in society for too terribly much longer anyway- everyone's just BEGGGING to give it up. We are really getting to George Orwell's 1984 age. People need to start standing together for their rights, etc, but no one will anymore, unless the fight is a SURE THING, or else a stupid cause like the one that started this thread...

This is truly dangerous thinking this guy is embarking on. The controls he is suggesting are totally wrong and socialistic. In addition, the points he makes are also way off. I don't agree with him at all. Isn't it our right to buy what we want if we have the dough for it?

Example: I order a prime rib at an expensive steakhouse and decide to only eat half of it and throw the rest away. I wasn't exactly sure if I was hungry enough to finish it, but in this example I happen to have plenty of money so I ordered it anyway. Should I be taxed, or regulated on my future prime rib purchases? My purchase certainly was wasteful, but that was my waste to make. I paid for it.

I guess we can all take the easy way out and try to stop people from buying only what they need. But if any of you have thrown a little leftover food away, burned gas on a joyride, left a house window open while the a/c was on, etc., we have no right to restict/tax people on their purchases. Then we would truly be hypocrites.

A truly free capitalistic deomocracy is imperfect, but no better system exists.

Remember, it was the communists that tried to create a perfect society through regulation and economic restriction.

One thing I forgot to add: In reference to the post about this being a possible "extreme conservatism" idea; I am an ultra conservative and never in a million years would me or anybody aligned with some of my ideals think up something like this. This is much more of a Darth Nader idea.

Quick Reply: I think everyone should e-mail this guy and tell him what a moron he is
