For future reference...

Radiator cooling fan resistors
models through 86 were behind the glove box and featured a thermal switch.
models 87+ located under rain tray to the right of the battery, no thermal switches.

I'm sure the wires are going to be in horrible condition when you get to them. Its best to replace them completely but splicing a foot or two should be fine and might solve your problem.

Take a peak at what my wires looked like.....

yes those resistors get very hot, I recorded 350+

Hey Keith and Fergus,
the wires looked to be in good shape, still ply-able and just a slight bit of corrosion on the exposed terminals. Both resistors have tested as "open/out-of-limits", and my new pair will be here this afternoon. If the low speed fans still do not work after the resistor swap, then continuity tests on the wires/relay. I will update when I install and let you all know if there was a victory or defeat on my end.

this car surprises me after a year of ownership and about $XXXX worth of parts and an untold amount of labor (on my back unfortunately, no lift); some areas/components completely thrashed, and some areas/components look remarkabley clean/new. Car is well documented with receipts too, so I kind of know where tech's have been in the past. But after all, it is a 944, so you never know what lies around the corner....

thanks again for the input everyone, glad there are some wise people with valuable input on this board.

VICTORY!!! resistors were the primary issue. "low" speed cooling fan now operational.

-Keith, you were right to suspect corrosion. Although mine is not nearly as bad, rewire this winter when she is put away.

Thanks again everybody, cheers!

Hi guys. My passenger fan does not run and when i looked at the big resistors on the passenger side behind the glove box. It shows one of the circle is broken. It looks like the ceramic was brittle and it came off where the wire goes. Is there a way to bypass it until i get a new one?
