Post sway bar installation tips.

Anyone that has upgraded thier sway bars (factory) were thier any tips or lessons learned ?If so how about passing them on,Im hopeing to do it this weekend. It looks srtaight forward,but with porsche you never know till its done!

Ive got the koni s on and this is the last phase of the suspension upgrade (turbo bars 25.5 and 18 mm) Then the alignment and hopefully Ill be done.

I just put an 18mm turbo rear swaybar on my 83 NA (which had a 14mm standard rear bar). Honestly took less than 15 minutes. All of the drop links and chassis mounts fit directly to the new bar.
As long as you have the bushings for the turbo bar, the rear should be a snap.

Anybody interested in a 14mm rear sway bar with bushings from an 83 NA for $25+ shipping ?

You may have trouble starting the bolts for the two inner bushings on the rear bar (bushing is sorta 'fat', bolts a bit short). When you start one, the other won't reach to its threaded hole. Start the top bolt, then use pliers or vise-grips on the very bottom edges of the fixed & removable part of the bracket to squeeze them together far enough to get the bolt started.

This was the closest thing to a problem that I had upgrading the 968's bars from stock to M030. It's really a pretty straight-forward job, and well worth the cost & effort.

I'm interested in your bar, but would like to know if this deal includes the brackets to mount it also. I have an 87 924S with no rear bar and would love to have one!

Sorry, only includes the bar and the 2 bushings.

You would need the 2 drop-links and two bushing caps that clamp it to the chassis.

unbolt the 2 lateral (drop link) fittings first then unbolt the center mount bolts, same f & r. best way to do it is with weight ON the suspension, use ramps, NOT jackstands. that's it, very simple. the rear bar can be tricky note the orientation of the bends before you pull the old one out, but it will only go one way, that's how I figured it out. Also it is kind of a PITA to do it without the ramps, but feasible, ask me how I know.

Thanks for the tips ,they definitly helped.I made sure I oriented the bar on the floor the sam as it was mounted on the car for the rear,And I used vise grip to help close the gap to bolt the clamps in place.All your help made the job much eaisier,THANKS <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" /> Now an alignment and enjoy the turbo upgrade! I cant wait to try it and see the difference!

BTW turbopop when you upgraded the rear did you change the front?Was just the rear a noticibl difference? <img src="graemlins/yltype.gif" border="0" alt="[typing]" />

Actually, I installed the turbo rear sway bar to balance it with the 250lb springs and koni sport shocks I installed up front. Haven't had a chance to give a good hard run, but it should be pretty neutral and flatter.
